I downloaded the Unreal Tournament 3 demo a few days ago... The gameplay is awesome, but I'm getting framerates of 20 and 30 fps... This really sucks, because I was hoping that my computer would max games like this just fine, which is not the case. I don't know if it's just my computer... Gamespot got 80fps on a resolution just a little bit lower than mine, so why are my framerates so bad?

As far as my rig, I have a 640mb 8800gts, 2gb Dual Channel RAM, an AMD X2 5400 CPU, and Windows Vista (big mistake)... Could my CPU be holding me back...? I have 163.69 forceware drivers for my graphics card.

I really feel like giving up on all of this... If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

I'm running it at 1680x1050, nothing but xfire, fraps, and all of vista's "system processes" crap in the background. I maxed out everything that was available in the game menu.

Well... For one thing, Vista is a complete memory hog. I think it generally lowers framerates anywhere from 5 to 10fps, and there are a lot of performance issues.

I'm going to assume it's got to do with Vista/RAM/Drivers. I've got a AMD 3200+, 1GB Corsair Value Select, Windows XP SP2 and a 8800GTS 640MB and I pull a constant 35 frames on VCTF, 40 on DM with full bots(All settings as high as they can go, 1440x900 res).

Hi there. I'm running fairly similar machine specs to yours. I have an AMD X2 4600+, 2 Gig dual channel 800 mhz ram, 320mb 8800 GTS video card, Windows XP Pro SP2, and nVidia 162.18 drivers. I just tested my UT3 demo out with Fraps and I'm hitting 62 FPS consistently while playing. Not sure what could be causing those issues for you. Oh yeah and I'm running it at 1280 X 1024 resolution with all settings on high. It's possible Vista has something to do with it. You could try the drivers I'm using and see if that improves it. You have anything else running in the background while playing it?

I have a similar problem I run:

AMD 4000+

8800 gts 640mb

2 gigs of ram

Vista Ultimate

I get good framerates from time to time but it chugs up once and a while. I should try playing single-player (offline) and see if it does that.

But I think my CPU is a little weak but it may be my connection as well. Vista seems to have high pings once a while during gameplay.

Try playing offline, most of the online servers are very laggy, none that I know of are actual dedicated servers...

Stop saying Vista is the problem because it's not. I say download the new 163.75 Beta drivers and see if that helps. Also see what happens if you turn post-processing down a click or turn hardware physics off.

FRAPS is your main problem. Cause if youre trying to record and its recording in 20-30fps, then you will play at that. IF not, the only other reason is Vista or because its a beta demo. The game ran fine on my Intel E6420, 2x1gb and 8800gts 320mb....around 50fps

Not true. At the launch of the demo there were no dedictad servers, but now there's many of them up, most of which run very well.

try turning off xfire. i had a similar problem with ut3 where my frame rate would drop drastically in areas where it shouldn't be dropping.

Ok I think you're getting bad frames because of your CPU.......... but as for ThereIsNoEscape it seems you should be doing a lot better, maybe if you didn't already plug in the extra power to the GPU?

How many bots are you running, under 10 you should be fine fps wise, but if you run like 15 or more your cpu will get raped.
