PC Gaming > Consoles when it comes to hardware the PC will always be dominate.Xiumph
I'm wondering will I get stuck behind in the past generation if I build now.

I think you guys are misinterpreting what I mean... For the most part game quality is tied to the current console hardware... I'm wondering that if I build now the machine I build will not be powerful enough to compete against console titles that will invevitably be optimized for console hardware and poorly ported to Windows.
If you build in a $600 PC now, you will be behind in 2 years when the consoles are in full swing. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply wrong.
huh? Next set of consoles are going to be low TDP based systems which will not allow them to be high end. The most you will see the next consoles have will be a sub 100w based gpu like a 7770. And the fact that MS has stated that the next xbox will be around 6-8x faster then the 360 proves the point. If you build in a $600 PC now, you will be behind in 2 years when the consoles are in full swing. I'll put it this way. The best hardware out right now will be at least 3 times better than whatever is going to go into the PS4 and the next Xbox. Unfortunately having a budget of $600 isn't going to get you any great stuff. So for $600, yeah, you'll probably be behind in two years, meaning you won't be playing anything on high, but that goes for almost every $600 build at any time. Are visuals that important to you? You're worried that you won't be able to compete with next generation consoles if you build now? Those are the things I'm wondering. Just play games.

Just wondering if there's a tactical advantage to building in a years time or so... And $600 is 600 black friday dollars so...
If you are looking for longevity while being able to still game today. My recommendation would be get get a decent montherboard with a good I5 Intel chip like a 3570. This will eat up a log of your budget and will make it so you can only get a mediocre GPU. The mediocre GPU will be sufficient for now to play most games at decent settings. In 2 years you can upgrade the GPU when you have $200 - $300 extra dollars and you'll have a beast machine again.
If you buy a decent GPU now and skimp on the CPU because at this point in time the CPU would be pretty decent for what you are using it for, but in two years good chance it will be underpowered. The problem with this is if you need a new CPU you will also likely need a new motherboard and memory.
Don't flame me if I'm wrong but if the new generation consoles have been in development chances are PC hardware is probably way past them by now.XiumphYour will not get flamed by people that have common sense. The next set of consoles especially the next xbox has been in the works since 2010, And I believe that the final specs have been finalized earlier this year. The fact that its been generally stated by Microsoft that the next xbox will be around 6-8x faster and there was a report of MS's new xbox already being produced for testing purposes by Flextronics in Texas. You will not see 100w+ TDP based gpu's in the next xbox, which pretty much limits their performance range.
