Just thought that these guys should get some attention, even if it is an almost impossible project, if they got help (from a very large community) they might do it!.

http://forums.gamersnexus.net/viewforum.php?f=34

Help them out if you can.

So I can take Baldurs Gate 2's combat system which was easy to use and had the perfect view and can instead use Dragons Age crappy MMO inspired one. One where I can't even perform a simple task like blocking a door with my characters because the enemies run right through them like they weren't even there. And I can play through the part of Baldurs Gate 2 that most people grew tired of playing through every time they made a new character (so much so that people were happy to download the Dungeon Be Gone mod). That sounds awesome.

Unless I looked at the wrong thing I see no point to this. Baldurs Gate 2 is pretty much perfect, even its graphics (along with Icewind Dale and Planescape) are pretty much made in a way where no one should have a problem playing the game today (unlike Never Winter Nights which I hated the look of the day it came out).

Didn't your mother ever teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?

On topic, sounds great. I never played the original BG2, only the expansion (and with cheats at that  ). I'd love to see another high quality campaign for Dragon Age!

I admit I am not a fan of the dungeon scene, but who's to say they won't offer something similar to Dungeon-Be-Gone? If you have a voice to put into this go and help, I would love to, even if it isn't much. I like DA, and if it's possible to do HL on the Source Engine, then it's possible to do BG on the DA engine.

The project that I looked at said that all they were making was

Create a fully-playable recreation of all areas of Irenicus' Dungeon, recreating the atmosphere and feel of the original game.

All it is is the opening dungeon scene, at least at this point.

I wish them the best of luck but I have to somewhat agree with Legolas_Katarn and wonder if this is really needed. BGII was/is superior to DA:O in almost every single conceivable way, including combat and graphics. Oh well, the more mods the merrier I guess.

I asked them about it, and they really want to do a complete revamp, even change the classes from DA to BG classes.

Better classes and better and much more kick ass spells. Now that is a good change. The only thing I really would want them to change is the horrible camera angles, needs a more tactical see through walls and easily select anyone you want like in BG2. And the MMO crap has really got to go. I couldn't imagine trying to play BG2, especially with stealth classes, with DA's battle/movement system If they did that I could almost get behind them on it, except it would be BG2 but without all the great mods, I can't really imagine playing BG1 or BG2 without Xan anymore but it would be great for people that don't own the game. Even though it's like $6 now

Very true, I would suggest that you PM them, I am wanting to get involved in the project (even with my limited skills) even if it means just getting the word spread and getting people to voice their opinions.

You're doing it wrong. I can bodyblock doors just fine, and the combat system is good.

I like the combat system too, I think it would be an excellent mod, but I know that it will take a while, perhaps they can do steps, like the dungeon first, then just the bare essential things and then add extra content later.

Haha, I think the reason they are doing the dungeon first is too see if people will play it first, and secondly because they do not need permission to do just the dungeon.

I'm going to have to agree with the pessimists here.

Dragon Age was inferior in pretty much every way to BG2 (especially with the combat and party mechanics), and the only advantage to remaking BG2 as a DAO mod is that it'd be in 3D...so it seems like a waste of mod talent.

Still, if they go to the trouble of modelling even half of BG2's creatures, these modders will have probably put more effort into DAO than Bioware did. :P

Which they plan to do. They plan to change / use as much as possible, even taking things that other modders have done (with their permission of course...)

I never got to play the baldur's gate games....I wasn't an RPG fan when those games came out. But now I am a fan, but can't bear the thoughts of playing such an old game. So this project will be great for me..if it does come out. I will definitely try and see how I can help.

It is a massive undertaking, but the original Baldurs Gate 2 was perfect for me from when I played it, but I wish the team luck... and hopefully they keep up the passion and enthusiasm for the project as alot of major overhaul mods have had projects dormant/scrapped. Im more looking forward to new community made adventures, I enjoyed alot of the community modules done for NWN, which outshot even the original campaigns Bioware made for it.

BGII, in it's current state, is still and will always be good enough.

3D remakes are waste time IMHO.

I agree, BG2 is a flawless game in almost every way. No one should try to update it; it would ruin its charm. BG2 as a 2D isometric game makes it what it is, with the prerendered backgrounds which are gorgeous and minimal 3D/sprite-based spell effects, and incredible features. The Infinity Engine is one of the best ever made in regards to what was made with it.
