battle stations pacific: short freezes

hello

i have just started playing battlestations pacific and im having issues with the game play. while playing in game or on menu screens every so often it will freeze for a second or 2 then continue. when it freezes and sound that is being played at the time also freezes stuttering it. in game im running at 30fps so i dont think its a hardware issue since it also happens in menus where my pc is not being taxed.

i run windows xp sp3 and as far as i know i have latest drivers for my graphics.

does any one have any ideas as to what itcould be.

ok i just played and it was lag free for a while but then slowly got worse and worse. i thought it was my core temp which was hitting 56 ish so cleaned out fans and set fan speed to full so should be cooled alot better. started it up and its extreamly laggy this time to the point of unplayable will try later. any one got any ideas my specs are

AMD64 x2 5600+ 2.81ghz, 2gb ram, Asus ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512Mb on a 22, 1680x1050 monitor
