http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/battlefield-1943-bad-company-2-unveiled

EA has officially unveiled Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

The latter will be out this summer as a downloadable PSN, XBLA and PC title. Players will be whisked back to World War II and do battle in tropical locales Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, using period vehicles and weaponry to wreak havoc.

Screenshots and trailer there.

It's using Dice's Frostbite engine, which means DX10 and 90% destructible environments.

Might be interesting after all.

I always considered 1942 to be the best in the series...well at least the most fun. With updated graphics and destructable environments it should be a blast. Any word on release dates?

Late 2009, maybe? It has to have been in development for some time already.

EDIT: Oh, I totally missed that "will be released summer 2009" part.

This isn't battlefield 3. This is just another way to fund the development of Battlefield 3 and keep us waiting.

Ah, great news then due to I'm much more eager for a Battlefield 3 modern setting.

Cool, while I'd much rather have a Battlefield 2 sequel proper, this might be an interesting/fun diversion for a while.

The fact that it's multiplatform does concern me a little (24 player action possibly have anything to do with this?)...but it is what it is and it's unfortunately not BF3...might still be fun to spend a little time with though ;)

I did a little reading and it seems it's only covering the pacific theatere? Is that true? I think that was 1942's strongest maps but I also loved el-amine (sp?) and some others...hope it's not limited.

Yeah, it appears limited to Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. However, it's also a downloadable multi-player only title, and presumed to be budget-priced. So it's unfortunate, but might be reasonable.

Now where is BF3!!?!! lol

"Battlefield 1943 is a downloadable multiplayer-only title coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will feature 24 player action, three classic Battlefield locations--Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima--and uses the same Frostbite engine that powers Bad Company 2."

Seems like it will be 24 regardless of platform.

If the maps are made for only 24 players, many more may not be the best. As I said, I don't think that Dice is just leaving the PC crowd out. I see a Battlefield 3 in a couple of years.

Good greif, all this time waiting for a proper new BF for PC and what we get is a 3 map cross platform BF with a 24 player limit, good god, they've taken a step backwards on that one, at least BC2 is coming to PC aswell BUT it will need to do something special to go along side BF2.

yeah 24 player map does suck...that must mean the maps themselves will be mini-versions of the original 1942 ones...dam...Plus the fact that this is being ported, totally kills it.

This is making me wonder why even bother with 1943 when Heroes is going to be out. Well hopefully BF3 will be worth the wait, whether it's modern warfare or something different.

I found the info I needed, looks like BF:BC2 is on the PC too, realy looking forward to it

the 1943 thing? meh not interested. WW2 is kinda boring already anyway and it being in the pacific makes the things that much worse for me, since I hate the setting. European front is atleast interesting, pacific one not (IMO)

If having fully destructible environments means a downgrade in players I don't want it. Wake can handle 64 easily. The price better be half decent because I am not paying more than 20 for a game with three maps.

I dunno...24 max players does sound low, but destructable environments really adds something meaningfull to the formula. Otherwise, it would just be BF 1942 with a new coat of paint. I really hope they consider making it at least 48 players for the PC version if possible though.

Actually, you don't even have to do that, reading the first post would have cleared that one up.

Um...why does GameSpot's article say, "DICE is releasing the next Battlefield exclusively on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, and we were the first to go hands-on with the game." Notice it says, exclusively for xbox live and playstation network. I thought it was for PC too...what am I not understanding?

I am confused, they say that in their article, but they have a PC section for 1943 up...

one would think that if they talked with the developer they would have a tleast a clue on what platforms it is on.

meh BF:BC2 is confirmed for PC so I am happy^^

THats odd on the Gamespot home page it said PS3 and 360 only

Still, I am stoked. I really loved all the BF games, and they have gotten better with time (absolutely loved BF2142), so this should be good.
