yeah thats probably my problem too
Post your resolution too bud. I'll have you guys at your native resolution in Battlefield 2.1680x1050Evz0rzCopy and paste this into the target box of the Battlefield 2 shortcut you open to play the game:
+menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
Your target box should then look like this after: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +playNow 1 +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
The hud will not be native scale but the in-game will run native to your monitor's native resolution.
I was wondering how the Battlefield 2 graphics compare to recent shooters. If there is a patch to make the graphics better, please show it to me, and tell me how much it improves them.t8trg8tr
don't listen to these guys. people say 'it hasn't aged well'. i think that's total BS. i just think a lot of PC gamers are spoiled and jaded.
if you have good hardware (geforce 8600 or above), set it to ur monitor's native resolution and max out the settings, it will look great. i finally got around to overclocking my video card yesterday (Rivatuner is a mother f-ing b*tch to get working; thank god there's nTune which IMO is so much better) and i played battlefield 2142 (which is basically the same engine as bf2). i hadn't played the game in maybe 3 weeks (due to RL stuff) but with all the settings max and at 1280 x 800, i said to myself 'holy sh*t, this game looks good.'.
again, personally i think a lot of PC gamers are a bit spoiled. bf2 (and bf2142) are both good looking games (but make sure u follow that short cut tip SuperMario gave if u want to run it at ur native resolution).

dude, do what SuperMario says. i play the same at 1280 x 800 (my laptop's native res) using that 'shortcut trip'. and the game is NOT stretched out. and with all the effects turned on, bf2142 (i don't play bf2 at all) looks PHENOMENAL.

Here's more on the 'command line' edit that SuperMario mentioned. Go to the section that says 'command line':

whatever resolution u want. i use it for 1280 x 800. 'szx'is the x-axis, 'szy' is the y-axis.
It's still nothing compared to even older source games though. TF2 really blows it away, but considering its age I guess its still decentTermite551
that's not a fair comparsion. battlefield maps are huge. much, much bigger than anything done with source engine. thus, b/c the tf2 maps are smaller, more detail can be packed into them without straining pc's too much. if DICE tried to stuff that amount of detail on battlefield's huge maps, the system requirements would be insane.
lets put it another way, i have a 3d aquarium screensaver called Dream Aquarium. as far as looking nice and realistic, it blows away almost anything. it looks more realistic than crysis and almost any other video game u can think of. but since it only has to render 1 fishtank, i'm not going to say the screensaver is better than than crysis because the amount that needs to be rendered is so different.

Yes it does. Unfortuently the hud is not made for a 16:10 resolution so it really gets messed up.
well the graphics are a bit dated, but the gameplay is good and hasnt been duplicated since not even BF2142 really did Bf2 justice. 2142 wasnt even much of a graphics or engine improvement that just made it futuristic which sucks IMO those flying vehicles arent nearly as fun as jet or a helicopter.
The next best thing is Frontlines, it just came out a few weeks ago. Its a little like BF2 and timeline wise is somewhere in between 2 & 2142. Graphics are OK not fantastic but better then Bf2 i like it for a bunch of reasons. One it adds new levels of gameplay and tactics with a few different things one the Frontlines style of gameplay is pretty cool its kinda like CTF but i really like how it works it makes matches fun wether youre the winning team or the losing team. Next is the leveling up and new weapons, its not like Bf2142 where you have to spend months playing to get new unlocks instead you get unlocks on the server youre playing on by stealing so many flags, you keep the level up while on the server until you log off. THe level ups are cool but dont really mis-balance the game too much.
You can choose one of 4 feilds to level up in, 1st field is Recon; 1st level is a r/c copter you can remote control and detonate to kill someone, second is an r/c car that can explode and blow up a tank, final level is a r/c copter with missles. 2nd Field is Airstrikes 1st; tactical 1bomb, 2nd cluster bomb, 3rd ac-130 gunship point and shoot. 3rd field is EMP which is way more useful then most EMP in games im not too sure on the level ups, last (or first) is basic level up. 1st is a gun turret (place it anywhere and you have a mounted gun) 2nd is an auto gun turret place it anywhere and it will guard the area, 3rd is.... i forgot.
So its not the best, but condsidering theirs not much for good military battlefield style games. Ideally i would really like to see a Battlefield 3 with new graphics, slightly futurisitic weapons and tactics but nothing unreal. I think that would be a lot better then 2142.
Its set in 2024, what would happen if the world ran out of oil. The single player campaign is nothing great but i kinda licked it.

Couldnt agree with you more, and i hate when people flat out refuse to play a game because it has 'outdated' graphics.
Even games released before it look alot better like HL2 with the source engine.
It has too much fog aswel which I couldn't stand.

Agreed. Foggy distances suck. Also it lacks some shaders like bump maps :) HDR would be a nice addition too. :)
Um, it came out when a 6800gt was the best card out.[QUOTE="daytona_178"][QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"][QUOTE="daytona_178"][QUOTE="Wasdie"][QUOTE="daytona_178"][QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]Copy and paste this into the target box of the Battlefield 2 shortcut you open to play the game:[QUOTE="Evz0rz"]1680x1050OoSuperMarioO

Nice, I am going to have to try that as well. I also have 1440 by 900 resolution.
