Now I don't know if this is the right forum to be posting this, but Battlefield 2 is really getting on my nerves.. You may have read countless times about BF2 just randomly closing to the desktop at any given moment, and you may have also seen how many different solutions people have offered up, but my problem is slightly different, it does'nt even let me into a game before closing, no, on single player it will load to 100% then close and on multiplayer it will close as soon as you click the "Play Now" button, it's so irritating I could clench my fists and lay into this god damn PC right now, BF2 is fantastic and I really wanna play it again, I've tried everything, all of the solutions I've seen don't work, these include;

Flashing the Bios, Reinstaling the Game, Updating Graphics Drivers, Using a No-DVD or Mini Backup Image Instead of the DVD, Changing the Memory to Single Channel, Changing the Display to 60Hz Before Playing the Game, Setting the Affinity in Task manager to Use all of the CPU's Cores in BF2... BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA!!!!!!!! Tried em' all!

It can't be my CPU overheating either because it's not that problem where it turns off after a few minutes it just does it straight away.. The only thing I can think of as being the problem is the sound drivers, I have the Realtech HD Audio Driver, which BF2 claims it supports and it also says it's working, however it closes off, just the same as if I was trying to start a game, when I click on the "Audio" button in properties. I would also like to point out that I'm running Windows XP Professional x64, but I can't see this being a problem as I know of many people who have BF2 running stable on XP 64-Bit operating systems. Any help is MUCH appreciated, thanx in advance. Here are my PC's specs for your reference, thanx again!

- BFG nForce 680i
- Inno3D GeForce 8800GTX
- 4GB GeIL Black Dragon DDR2 800Mhz CAS 4-4-4-12
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40Ghz - 34°C Idol, 37-42°C Load
- Tuniq Tower CPU Heatsink and Fan
- OCZ 1010W PCI-e Compatible ATX PSU

Whats your resolution? If its something that the games engine can't handle, thats what it does.

I remember i tried playing it on a res it wasnt able to handle so as soon as the game loaded a level, it would go to desktop or even go to desktop after the intro movie.

Just set it to 800x600 in the settings and w/e you changed back to default (in the config file) and then change it to w/e in the games settings.

Ye, it tried that, don't think it's anything to do with my display, I tried all different combinations too, like 1024x768 75hz, 1024x768 60Hz, 800x600 75hz and 60Hz etc.. etc.. God only knows whats happening.. any other suggestions?

BTW, I have the 1.41 Patch installed aswell! ;)

:/ I don't know really dude, Try stuff from Tweakguides? Key stuff to check... If you overclocked? or are you forcing anything from the Video cards driver?

You have a bug my friend ,because I had the same problem , started with BF2 and started with other things like movies shrinking down and other games , so I would run several programs tell you found it, I use trendmicro free online scan for a lot of things ,but I would also use other programs that let you scan at start-up,because a lot of bugs, spyware or whatever you want to call them can hide in an Active file so when you run a Virus or spyware program it can miss it . Good Luck to you :)

As you said, it might be down to a driver causing the problem.

You seem to have already tried a lot of solutions.

If you don't get anywhere with the drivers, you should maybe reformat.

I have'nt tried it yet, but I just set everything back to default in Nvidia Control Panel to see if it helps. I have overclocked my FSB in the past to squeeze some more speed out of my RAM, but I reset it to factory defaults yesterday so to my knowlage it should'nt of caused any problems.

Same symptoms.  Seems to be audio related.

WHALLA! Problem Solved!! Thanx for the link Tresca, anyone with the same problem just read the following solution!

Go to your documents folder - battlefield 2 - Profiles - 0001 - *

1.there should be a number of .con files in there, you can open these files through notepad or text document.

2. Open audio

3. Find the "AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1" line, it should be at the very top.

4. change it to a "0" instead of "1". This will effectively disable the voip which is what was causing the buffer overrun error.

5. Save it, then check it again to make sure the change has taken effect.

6. Open up bf2 and enjoy.

Now this isn't a perfect fix, I think your solution is more to the point, and it is something I am going to do right now.

Also you still cannot access the audio tab in your control pannel, it will cause the game to crash.

I'll update you guys on if things worked out or not over the long term, I still have to reinstall FH2.

I think we've got it licked though.

Thanx for your help Everybody!

If you wanna check if he's upadated it, click on the "Audio Drivers" link in Tresca's post!
