I've downloaded this patch twice from 2 different sites, and each time I've tried to install it over my V1.3, it doesn't work. I don't know why. I've tried the incremental patch, from 1.3 to 1.41, and downloaded the full complete 1.41 patch twice. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times, and it still doesn't.
With the other patches, I downloaded them to my desktop and clicked on them from there and they worked fine. There is no room on my desktop at the moment, so I can't initiate the patch over-ride from there, i have to do it from my D: drive. Is that the problem? And also, the two patches I'v downloaded, the file icon isn't the normal Install Shield Wizard icon, its a .exe icon (I think that's the one). Does this mean the file is incomplete or corrupt?
Any help would be appreciated.

But still, I got the complete version of V1.41 (540 odd meg), and it still doesn't work even if i uninstall the game and patch it fresh.

The first problem happened when I got the incremental patch from 1.3 to 1.4, when I tried to initiate the patch, it said that I didn't have V1.3, which I did have, and was using for a long time. I then tried to get the incremental patch of the previous version of V1.3, which then said I didn't have that version either. Then a friend of mine said to go straight to 1.41 a while later ( I had given up bothering to play the game after I couldn't get it to V1.4), which is when I downloaded the full 1.41 patch the first time round. Which ended up not working.

How much space do you have on your hard drive? I hear you need a few gigs of space or it won't patch right because it uses a lot of resources during the patching process. You might want to free up some space. Not sure how many gigs you need free though. But typically, I try and leave a fair amount of gigs on a drive so that Windows and apps can perform operations. It's not really a good idea to fill your drive full. But I have no idea if you did that or not, just guessing :p

I might have done that . My C: Drive has crap all left (only 10meg at the most), and my D: only about 3 gig. I might try freeing up some space now, thanks.

Freed up space on both drives, 919meg left on C: Drive, and 11Gig on D: Drive. Reinstalled the game, initiated the full V1.41 patch, and... it didn't work. Like it usually does, it screwed up my game. So now I've reinstalled it again for about the 10th freaking time. I think my patch must be corrupt or incomplete. When I try to initiate it, nothing happens, no screen appears like it normally did with the other patches, the cursor merely switches to the 'waiting' icon for a few seconds, then goes back to normal. I have no idea what's wrong. Do I have to start the patch from the desktop, or does it's location not matter?

try to free up _at least_ 2 gigs on the c: drive before you patch.

i took a look at the readme real quick, and here are some clues...

1. ...you will need approximately 2.0 GB free hard disk space for the full patch or 1.5GB for the incremental patch...
2. If you have Battlefield 2 installed to a different hard disk than where you have Windows installed then approximately 375Mb (full patch) or 100Mb (incremental patch) of the required free space must be available on the hard disk where Windows is installed.

now, these are listed under v1.2, but there's no such info under v1.41, so give it a shot.  you've re-installed 10 times, so this can't be that bad.

if bf2 is installed on the c: drive, i'd free up at least 2.5 or more just to be sure.  if it's on the d: drive, maybe you can patch with less space on the c: drive where windows is installed.

Do you have any programs running in the background while patching?  That has screwed up patches for me in the past.  Can't remember if BF2 gave me issues while patching, don't think so though.

In your case there is two things left you can do. One would be to go into your registry and delete all of the Battlefield 2 files and try again. If that doesn't work then reformatting is the only thing you can do.

Yes, getting this patch was a living hell for me too. Whatever you do, do not click on the Install Shield icon multiple times. The installation will take forever, and it pops up so many times at once. Learn from my experiences.

Going in to the registry was one of the things I had to do to manually uninstall the games, because doing the automatic uninstall from the popup when the disc is in the drive or from the Startup menu didn't work. As for not clickig on the icon multiple times, I do, but only after waiting for about a minute after first clicking it, in that time absolutely nothing happens, apart from the cursor switching to the 'waiting' icon, and then changing back to its normal phase.

Ok thanks, that's really helpful information, I might try to free up that much space, but I don't know I can. My C: Drive is pretty much full to the limit, and I've been back in there multiple times trying to free up more space.

And no, I've made sure to close all background programs while I'm installing patches. Does it matter where the patch is located when I click on it to initiate the update? Does it have to be in the same folder where BF2 is installed, or on the desktop? The other times it's been done by me from the desktop and it's worked fine. But with my cramped C: Drive, moving the patch to the desktop leaves literally crap all space left on my C: Drive, and from SJ420's post, I need all the space I can get for this thing to work. Thanks again all of you for your help.

good luck - i hope it works.

and for future reference, try to leave a couple gigs free on your c: drive at all times and install your games on your d: drive.  unless you have 2 gigs of ram (and adjusted the registry to fully utilize all ram), you want to let windows have some drive space for virtual mem/pagefile for better performance.  10mb of free space is like choking your computer.

For the record: it didn't work lol. I've given up, stuff it. And yeah, I do install games only to my D: Drive, only crucial files/programs I let install into my C: Drive. I'm just confused how it got so full :?, I rarely put stuff in there.

One folder that is taking up a sizable hunk of space is my C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp folder. I deleted about 500meg from here today of stuff that I didn't need. If the file was obvious to me and I knew what purpose it served I, deleted it. But there's still a ton of stuff on there that I don't know what they do, and I was wondering if I even need most of these files. Is it ok to totally clean out that folder? Because if I could, that would give me tons of needed space.

You can't install the patch because you don't have atleast 2.5 gigs of free space left.   You have a 160gb hdd but you have less than 1 gig of free space?.   You need to delete some of that porn.

Also, do this:

  1. Right click on your C: drive and go to properties
  2. Click on disk cleanup (it should be under the tab of General)
  3. Check every box there is and let it cleanup and if you deleted 500megs from you temp folder, I suspect this could take a while.

Alright, I will, cheers. And I have a partitioned HDD, my D: Drive is fine, but my C: Drive only has 10 gig total space . I didn't exactly partition it too well.

This is what happened to me... had to free 2 gigs on the drive were I had Windows. I have 2 partitions: C for windows and D for games. Though I had around 36 gigs available on the D drive, the patch would work. Get 2 or more gigs free on your windows drive and it will work ok
