Battlefield 2142 problems, need help. "PunkBuster"

I recently purchased BF2142 and it runs terrible. My video card driver is current, I have a 2.4Ghz Athlon 64 3800+, with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Also I have a 8600 GTS 256mb video card. I can't understand why the game is choppy. I have AA turned completely off and it's only at 1024x768 res and it chugs along at about 15-35 fps. I even installed the 257mb "patch" from EA.

CSS runs smooth at 55-70 fps on max settings, as does anything else that uses the Source engine (i.e, DoDS, SiN Emergence, HL2 and Ep.1). I guess I want to know is if BF2 will run same way. I was going to buy the BF2 collection, but not if it runs a choppy as 2142. I mean BF2 is an older game, so it might not be as graphically intensive, right? :?

Also, I keep getting a window that says "PunkBuster" when I get disconnected from every game. Sometimes I'm just driving around in a vehicle and I get kicked, without shooting anyone. Anyone know what triggers this or how I can fix it?

A. are you running Vista?
B. are you using the Beta patch?
C. download the updater for Punkbuster, and if it's already fully updated, run it as administrator.

I didn't know I had to update PunkBuster, but I'll do that when I get home from work.
