It seems that Battlefield 2 isn't very active anymore, and Team Fortress 2 is making me crave a more strategic shooter. So, I was wondering if 2142 was worth getting into, seeing as how it's predecessor is going through what looks like a recession.

My computer could handle Battlefield 2, so im sure it can handle 2142 so im not really worried in that area. Im just looking for a strategic, team-based shooter and was wondering if 2142 was it.

how is BF2 not active? its got tons of players. You should try the BF2 mod project reality if you are bored.

BF2142 has alot less players and isn't very good at all compared to BF2.

It's way worth it, I played it earlier and surprisingly I was pwning. I held a command point the entire game, pretty much by myself. and it was a full server like many other servers so I say go for it.

It's better balanced than BF2 was, but a lot of people liked the setting less than BF2. A lot less.

BF2142 is a little lame. I just don't think that anything from EA is worth a purchase anymore; not since their murderous DRM destroyed me.

Maybe there's a filter in there or something - BF2's still one of the most-played FPS's pretty easily, I think 4th behind the two counter-strikes and COD4.

theirs alot of players in Project reality. Its great because theirs no nade spamming and the stuff I hate in MP games. Its all about teamwork. But beware it does take a little time to learn especially if you wanna fly in the game.

I loved my stay in BF2, it actually felt you were doing something rather than just racking up kills. But I think I might go back to it and try out Project Reality.

IMO, BF2 was superior in everyway but graphics to BF2142. My primary pet peave is the way your tied to the servers. As in BF2, you can't use your unlocks on local lan games without some sort of mod, but at least BF2 provided the player will some well rounded kits to play with. BF2142 gives you the absolutely barebones and then dares you to play the hours and hours and hours of game play needed just to make a well rounded character. For example, you can burn your first few unlocks on one class, building it up, but once you get a few levels under your belt it takes forever to build your other class kits. BF2 unlocks were always optional..BF2142 unlocks are essential just to compete. My second problem with 2142 is that in firefights the player rarely feels in complete control. What I mean, when you take a shot that you know should land, thats not always the case. The aiming system just feels slightely "looser" than BF2, where a skilled player can consistantly hit his mark. Also, I find that the maps were designed to be a little too frantic. it is wayy too easy for a team to cannonball to one side early on, pin down the other team, and basically just hold them done perpetually, because of all the pinchpoints in the game. BF2 feels much more open and thus, more room to move around. Anyways, thats my .02. I think BF2142 is a decent game, but go with BF2. There are still tons of servers, and until Modern Combat comes out, i'm confident in saying that it will have a strong player base for awhile.

BF Vietnam still has a decent player base if anyone wants to dust off the old discs.

If you like BF2 I don't see how you could go wrong getting 2142. Man I miss playing this game, once I beat GTAIV and get over cod4 I'm gonna start playin again.
