BF3 is good for any reason an FPS is fun to play online, and it also does well with the various vahicles.

A couple PC-exclusives that I've had a lot of fun with:

1) Tribes: Ascend is a free-to-play FPS that's well worth the time to download.

2) Ravaged, which is a 'post-apocalyptic' FPS (also third-person view) with all the standard modes.

Not sure if it's free on any console, but on PC, Team Fortress 2 is also free to play and is still fairly active.

For multiplats that are also fun multiplayer, you have Crysis 2 and 3 which are also different-enough from Call of Duty thanks to the varied maps and the suit powers.

Hi guys. My nee Alienware laptop will be delivered soon. I want to get a multiplayer game that'll really pull me in. I heard BF3 is team based tactical stuff? I played COD...didnt like it (not hatin). And also ive been awaybfrom the pc scene a long time I've been mostly into consoles so can you guys please suggest why BF3 maybe good for multiplayer (been hearing a lot about the multiplayer) and also suggest some multiplayer games in pc which are better or exclusive to pc. Thanks

I would it was really great when I played it, and I plan to start again soon do try out the DLC's. Also if you're into Moba's try League of Legends, it's free to play and I have been addicted to it for over 3 years now.

despite a few shortfalls because its multiplat (like taking months to fix bugs) I still think BF3 is the best online FPS around.

If you get a battlefield game for single player...you're doing it wrong.

Try to get the complete pack for $20-30 no more than that, premium + base game. Some sites may have it on sale.

Gaming laptop :\, I hope you aren't lugging a 17+ inch.

I wouldn't describe is as 'tactical'. It's a good MP shooter with lots of vehicles.

BF4 will probably be out this year. I'd just dive right into TF2, Tribes Ascend, Planetside 2 and Blacklight right away - they're free to play. [QUOTE="eviefalstein"]hi new player here of battlefield.....can someone help me tips or guide? ___________ thanks

BF3? Play your class role, cap points, defend points run about and shoot stuff, staying near squaddies will increase your survivability most of the time.

I really don't like it. It's a bigger Call of Duty unless you have a dedicated group on voice-chat.

You might wanna try Red Orchestra 2 also. Wait for a sale though ( been on sale quite often). Smaller player base, but great game.

In what universe?

In the universe where the TTK is exceptionally low, the majority of the infantry battles revolve around sprinting, shooting, repeat with little-to-no tactics, team-play is not as encouraged as it could be thus lone wolves can dominate the game, the maps are exceptionally small, many of the weapons don't feel differentiated enough, the reward system for new pieces of equipment, the game dies quickly when the next iteration comes out within a few years requiring you to shell out $50-60 for a very similar game over and over, etc.

Hello, strawman. I see you there.

"It's a bigger CoD" is a terrible argument. They are both FPS with unlock systems (which is common in most games today) and some similar game modes, after they are extremely different.

That is just obvious.

That is just obvious.

It's common in most games? I can't think of many others out there that did this, but even if there are others out there BF and CoD brought this feature into the limelight. Similar game modes? Their bread-and-butter game modes are the same. Let's try this again. Beyond the fps games with unlock systems, and similar game modes, they have: ... the TTK is exceptionally low, the majority of the infantry battles revolve around sprinting, shooting, repeat with little-to-no tactics, team-play is not as encouraged as it could be thus lone wolves can dominate the game, they both currently lack any commander of overall strategic mode, the maps are exceptionally small, many of the weapons don't feel differentiated from each other, the reward system for new pieces of equipment locks you into very linear paths, the game dies quickly when the next iteration comes out within a few years requiring you to shell out $50-60 for a very similar game over and over, they are both set in modern times with exceptionally similar weapon overlap, their physics models are similar, the sprint speed and mechanics are similar, they both feature two teams that are exceptionally similar in all but art... Other than size and vehicles, how would you differentiate them?

Ummm....

BF has massive maps, way more gamemodes than CoD, actual bullet physics and gravity, and in general doesnt feel like a game where you insert quarters to play like CoD.  What game are you playing that it feels the same, because it sure as hell doesnt copy cod other than the fact they have guns.
