Battlefield Bad Company 2- Patch query

I was thinking of getting the patch off here (its been quite a few months since I last played the game). Do I need the Patches or will this one suffice for the vanilla version of the game.

Ah well then, I suppose it would depend whether this patch file is an incremental patch or a full patch.

Of course which version you currently have installed is an important piece of information as well. Is there a readme included in the file you linked?

If so it should list applicable information.

There's a BFBC2 Updater in your BC2 folder where it will automatically patch you up to the latest version.

Yeah the game should autopatch to the latest version when you start the game.
