COD 4 is probably the best option if you want to go with a call of duty game. As for battlefield, I haven't tried it on PC, but I know it has some steep requriments so make sure you can run it before you buy it. And any other good multiplayer shooters for PC that I know, are old games (Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2)
[QUOTE="psn8214"]49.99 euro is not cheap IMO, or am I being ripped off?Battlefield 2, while old, is better than both. It's cheap now too.

You're being ripped off worse than serfs. The game is about five bucks, ten with the expansions.
Hm are you sure its Battlefield 2? Or Battlefield: Bad Company 2? There's a difference.
Battlefield 2 was excellent though as I understand it the game is slowly dying and the community is more of the dedicated fanbase that only plays a handful of maps, infantry only. Anyone can confirm? It was the much better game in its prime though.
Bad Company 2 still has a strong playerbase though its declined a little in the few months since its release. A great game but more casual and consolized than previous entries into the series. Though if you liked Enemy Territory, Bad Company 2 might be right up your alley. It should only be about 30 bucks though.
Quake Live is a great "hardcore"(though I don't really agree with the use here) game and it's free.
TF2, while a casual game, can be hardcore if you go for lobbies or join a team. check out tf2lobby.com, if you want to get into some matches
edit: btw, COD is also casual
I second TF2, while it can look like some kids game, once you get past the cartoony visuals it's an awesome class-based shooter.(Can't believe I forgot TF2, it's my favorite shooter! :))

I disagree... it's both. Go into a random pub and 90% of the players are terrible, with a couple that are decent. And tend to be very campy with many engineers which becomes a spam fest. I find this to be less of a problem with arena but it can still be a little annoying, mostly with 18+ players.Get a lobby or team together though and it can take a lot of skill, and teamwork. Not TOO much teamwork with lobbies/pugs though, but it helps. It's becoms more like a limited pub with higher skilled players
Sure Quake Live and TF2 may be a lot of fun and hardcore but I just got myself an awesome computer and I cba with cartoonish-like games. BF2 is cool but as someone said, its an oldie. I want something that gives myself a good online challenge and makes my computer worth its money. At the moment im stuck with MW2 and Bad Company 2. Which is the best? Or are there any other high end hardcore fps's out there?Zurikz
Out ofthose two, get Bad Company 2, besides MW2 doesn't "make your computer worth its money" really it doesn't require alot to run it, way less than TF2.
Red Orchestra: Ostrfront 1941-45, Darkest Hour Mod(steam enables downloading it through their servers).
It is quite a spiffy game. Rather cheap at this point as well, around 9.99 EUR.GswSir
That, right there, is one of the most hardcore games you can hope for. I'm actually attempting to write my first blog post detailing why Red Orchestra is the best battlefield experience out there.
