can anyone tell me what cpu i should get i7 930 + mobo ($580AU) or i7 860 + mobo ($480) and is it worth $100 more for the i7 930.

Every performance boost counts.So i7 930 should be good especially for gaming. It only depends on your budget my friend. But if you choose the i7 8XX you can also contribute the remaining $ 100 for other stuff in your computer.

Buy a Phenom x4 965 and an 890GX/X mobo. I see you list australian dollars. Check MSY's part list for the 965 + mobo. Intel is unnecessary for gaming if you want to save some cash.

a phenom 2 setup is prolly the most cheapest while offering same performance in games. I say go for the 860 unless ur overclocking or going for a multi gpu setup in which case the 930 is supposed to be better

Is this for gaming?

If so then getting an i7 is a tad bit wasteful, you would get similar performance for quite a bit less going down a i5 750 or Phenom II X4 route.

If its for workstation stuff the the i7 Pwn's the others.
