Before you buy Rage...

You might want to keep track of forums for when ID gets this game patched first. It's pretty buggy right now and the texture pop-in makes it unplayable for me. There are reports of CTDs too, but I haven't personally experienced that. To compound this, there are no graphical options to change the quality.

I have a Q6600, 4GB of ram, and a 460GTX Hawk Talon Attack so I should be breezing through the game.

Take a look at these screens to show the texture pop in from just turning a little. The second screen was after a little less than a 10 degree turn. The third was more like 180. Watch the counter to the right.

Yeah, canceled my pre-order several days ago. I saw this coming after I read interviews and auto-detect graphics sealed the deal for me. My major concern is the texture-streaming. I'll buy it but not until it's patched.

It's really too bad because I want this game, so bad... hehe

60 FOV is low, would prefer 90 at least.

That's such a bummer. Was hoping this game would be good. Looks like the reviews are saying the game is just average. Combine that with the bugs for PC and that = a no buy for me.

I don't think the nVidia cards have these problems. If you have ATI though do not buy this game.nutcrackr

Agreed, its pretty bad. There are also people who can't even get the game to start, others are constantly getting CTDs or loading a save causes display drivers to crash, audio stuttering, artifacts popping up all over, etc. I almost feel they should offer a refund to those who want it. At least if the major problems aren't sorted out within a few days.

On the Nvidia website it states you need the newest beta driver (the same one for BF3, i think its the 280.36 beta) to see an increase in performance. Could be that in some weird marketing move AMD is getting no love. Anyhoo too late for me. Preloaded it already, waiting for the 7th now to play. Though i did see a 61 MB patch being downloaded via steam auto-update.

Reviews say 8/10 and i'm sure a patch fixing the issues will be out soon. Don't y'all think that its just too soon to hit the panic switch and i'm generally feeling the reactions in this thread are a bit overkill.

Q3 and Q4 games aren't living up to their hype

I don't understand how they would have missed this, during testing. They must have known it was there, and were just too lazy to fix it. C_Rule

My 460 hasn't had those problems. Game has run perfect for me so far. Yeah, it's a little wierd that John Carmack of all people made a game without graphics options or customizability, but it hasn't stopped me from loving the game.

@NoodleFigher Well nothing is lost for me :P, wasn't really expecting Rage much, wanted to get it because of the art style and because it's id, will still get it if they fix these problems, as for BF 3, I didn't expect much, but what I saw is less than the little I expected, these two were never games on my "must play list", Batman AC, Saints Row 3, AC Revelations, L.A N (like the concept, will get it even tho most say it's boring), MW 3 which I might get the first month even if I'm not expecting much from the sequel of the worst CoD, MW2, and finally SW TOR, Anno 2070, Trine 2, there're also DLCs like the Dungeon Siege 3 one and Missing Link for Deus Ex HR and about 7 indie games that just got released or will be released in the next few months those I'm waiting for the Steam sale then there are surprises like FIFA 12, I never expected it to be so good.

For me at least, nothing of real value was lost.

Nah, it's just streamlining. Having graphic options would simply be too confusing for most modern gamers. :lol:

It's coming out on the 7th where I live do you think they will have a patch by then? I am buying it regardless.

Well, I just cancelled my preorder of two copies of RAGE, after seeing some of the screenshots and videos posted over on the Steam forums, and hearing about all the problems with this game.

The PC release seems to be really quite poor, from what I've seen and read, and I'm frankly surprised that ID would ship the game in this state. Didn't they test this game at all on PC hardware prior to release? Have they simply forgetten that PC gamers need proper graphical settings (and other) options to tweak a game to run on their hardware? I really have to wonder what's going through their minds.

If they can fix this game up with some major patches, maybe I'll consider getting it on PC in the future, but until then it's dropped right down to the bottom of my wanted list.

I'm still waiting for a decent patch to Dead Island before I pick up that game as well. What is with these shoddy releases, all of a sudden? Is it catching, or something?

I preordered the game for $42 and I'll be getting it in a couply of days in the mail. I still think I'm going to enjoy it.

Wow... I didn't see that one coming AT ALL. I thought for sure a dev like id would take great care in the PC version.. this is seriously disappointing. So ridiculous texture pop-in, inconsistent framerates, locked FOV, mouse acceleration, and no Eyefinity support... that's just awesome.

Console port... Pass.

Yeah thats horrid, so the game is only like this on the pc version?? either way it is inexcusable. What happened to ID, all its going to take is a few more unpolished turds and the masses will turn on them.

Further proof you never buy games on day one. It doesn't matter how good you think the game is going to be. Just wait.
