Best 23-24 Inch PC Gaming monitor

Just wanted to make sure that you are aware that response time has very little to do with input delay. Having a low respose time is good because it reduces artifacts such as ghosting in fast motion images. Input delay on the other hand, is the difference between the time a signal is input to a display and the time it is actually shown by the display. If you want a monitor with low input delay look no further than the ASUS VH236H 23 Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor. I have 2 and they're amazing. BTW this should have been posted in the audio/video hardware discussion forum ;)

This is what I own and it's amazing. You can also search for the VG236H version which is bundled with 3D glasses (that's the one I actually bought, it's not on the site). Beware though - it's glossy, like a laptop screen, so make sure you won't have a light source shining straight at it.

I have a 24" Asus monitor. Really can't go wrong with such a quality brand.

Im looking at the Asus or BenQ the 3d monitors they have seem to get 4-5 stars everywhere. I am really interested in the 120Hz and maybe 3d in the future.

I have heard that you need to have the right cable to get 120Hz? Or 3d?

Few people have ever actually tested and experienced a variety of monitors. Most monitors will provide an acceptable level of quality so it seems fine. I do find it humorous how people are recommending their own sub $200 monitor as "the best 23-24 inch PC gaming monitor". I mean, really? The Asus monitor is neither IPS nor 120 Hz.

There are basically two schools of thought regarding gaming monitors that are mutually exclusive; Do you want better colors or smoother fluid motion?

If you want better colors, then you'll want an IPS panel monitor. The NEC LCD2490WuXi is one of the best 24 inch IPS monitors you can find, especially since it has the ability to store a color lookup table on its own hardware provided you also purchase a Spectraview spectrophotometer. It also has an A-TW polarizer that removes the most common complaint of IPS monitor known as "IPS glow" during very dark scenes. The NEC monitor is around $800 bucks and probably more than you'd like to spend.

The Dell UltraSharp u2412M is considered a "low-end" IPS monitor though still considerably better than something like the recommended Asus monitor. Its around $350 and lacks some of the advanced features of the NEC, but you're not likely to miss those features anyways.

If you want smoother motion, then you'll want a 120 Hz monitor. There are no 120 Hz IPS monitors out there which is why, for the moment, the decision is mutually exclusive and you'll have to accept the poor color rendering and poor viewing angles of a TN panel LCD.

The two most popular models for 120 Hz gaming are probably the Benq XL2410T and the Asus VG236H. I liked the Asus is a bit better, but its also a little pricier at around $490.

Well said. I like the Asus vg236 because I prefer a glossy coating for tn panel as it helps the usually duller colors that tn's have compared to ips panels.

Great reply, I was looking at the BenQ as it pivots to portrait view. I write a lot of code and would prob have it in this mode between gaming.

HDMI 1.4 or a dual-link DVI cable. At least the DVI cable should come with the monitor.

Thanks, so the HDMI cable is special, but the hdmi ports on the monitor should be 1.4 and on my graphics card.
