Let's hear your opinion. What game do you believe has the best overall AI?

Fear was the first AI that i saw, which actually used some strategy, and somehow both ME had a decent AI.
Crysis and Half Life had some of the best enemy and friendly AI ive ever seen. But if were talking non PC games then my vote gets Metal Gear Solid 2, I remember being amazed that the enemies would even work off screen to try and take you down, I thought it was neat that Kojima did that, remember this was back in 2001 :P
For their time, Quake 2 and Half-Life are the best I've ever seen.
Crysis has the best AI of all time though, IMO.
This is true. The Pedestrian AI is STILL terrible though, I wish Rockstar could code some way for pedestrians to dive AWAY from my car, when I swerve near them, not into it XDGTA IV has some very real time Ai. People take cover behind cars and objects in the street.

I agree... but the driving AI in GTA4 is even worse. It's phenomenally awful.

I disagree. It's pretty good. It's not racing game level, but it is by far the best that driving has been in an open world action game.FEAR was an outstanding AI for its time.. another good one constantly getting refined is DoW2 finally battlestations pacific is pretty good too if at times a bit predictable.
i don't agree with everyone about crysis, or at least on the normal difficulty. I thought it was a bit retarded that guards just walk straight at you and don't really try to flank you at all compared to other games. Also, everyone seems to be forgetting Dead Space, where you'd have the necromorphs chasing you down everywhere you went if you couldn't get rid of them. FEAR definitely has awesome enemy AI. As for half life 2, even though i loved the game, i never saw any decent amount of intelligence in enemies that just stand there shooting at you, sort of like cod but not as bad. As far as non-pc games go, mgs4 had awesome enemy ai that would track you down no matter what if you turned the difficulty up. Uncharted 2 also had good ai that flanked you efficiently without being too overwhelming.
Crysis' AI is just too damn awesome. I love it when you pop out of stealth right in front of them and they you frighten them so much they run and literally trip over eachother.KHAndAnimeI love the silly stuff that can happen. For example, in one of the levels I was playing the game stealthily, and was in stealth mode near a bush and saw a group of soldiers march past. Then I saw one break off from the back and thought "Oh damn, he must have saw me, and backed away a bit and watched him come towards me, gun ready to shoot if needed. Then he ran towards my bush and...started urinating on it. Before leaving running off to catch up with his group again XD
Crysis has some awseome AI stuff going on, especially on the Delta difficulty. It is extremely hard to make AI work in a larger level like that. F.E.A.R. has some of the best AI around as well.

Luckily there are some mods that easilly fix this.

Halo CE will have to be the best I've seen in a video game followed by Half-Life 2: Episode Two.
The reasons for Halo CE will generally have to be character behavior. Grunts and Elites will work together to defeat a target with a determined personal in both animation and dialogue, but kill the Elite and watch the Grunts fear for their lives, however be killed and watch them glee in accomplishment, lol... Allies will support the player in both on foot and vehicle scenarios within small or large environments. The list just goes on..
I still have fantastic memories in a scenario me and a relative use to arrange in Halo CE with the Elite sword wielder on Assault On The Control Room. If I ever get the chance to show it in a video feed I will certainly do, because I have yet to come across any A.I. that behaves like that and I'm certain it was only coincidence.
Half-Life 2: Episode Two is a second choice on account of behavior again, specifically the Hunters. From animation to transitioning indoors and outdoors to engage the target was remarkable for me in video gaming, they felt so believeable. The Hunters in comparison to other enemies in Half -Life 2ep2 was doubtlessly a massive contrast in A.I. for me in my playthroughs of HL2ep2.

Of all the games I've played I'd say FEAR. It feels like you're playing against real people sometimes.
