Doom was based off the game... not the other way around....
Anyway, the worst IMO has existed pretty much since they 1st started releasing games based off movies, and didnt start improving until a few years ago.
Â
Best:Â Chronicles of Riddick
Worst: Man that's really hard to say. There's been so much crap out there that died almost as soon as it was released. I'd guess that nearly 90% of all game titles based on a film are crap. A few years ago you may remember a title "Gods and Generals." Game Spot only gave it a 1.2. Read here for one of the worst reviewed games I've ever read.

The WORST video game based on a movie is...without a doubt...The Matrix. This game made my sack creep up into my body. Everything about it was wrong! SHOOT is the little BLACK BUTTON?! Bullet time is the right trigger? What?! The right thumbstick MAKES YOU STOP DEAD IN YOUR TRACKS AND...LOOK AROUND?!! The "in game tutorial" says...while you're getting pummelled..."to punch enemy, press the "punch" button. To kick enemy press the "kick" button." What the F**K are those buttons?! Now I have to pull out the friggin' manual in the middle of the "action" and read? WOO HOO! AWESOME!! And here's the best part...you get to play as MORPHEUS'S EX-GIRLFRIEND!! Or GHOST! Who gives a s**t about GHOST? WHO THE HELL IS GHOST?! This game sucks so bad that I use it a baseline to compare all else in the world that sucks. WORST MOVIE GAME, IF NOT JUST PLAIN GAME, OF ALL TIME.
Butcher Bay rocked and I really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and Return of the King.
Another vote for Butcher Bay, only movie game I can remember liking. As for worst, I will offer Total Recall for NES. Never played it personally but I'll say its the worst anyway thanks to this "review" I saw on youtube. Painful watching but kinda funny too.

Best: Hmm...that's a tough one. If we're talking about individual movies...I have no idea. If we're talking franchises, I'll have to say Knights of the Old Republic.

Agree. KOTOR was great, though I wish it was more open and interactive with the environment, a la Oblivion. KOTOR 3 perhaps?
As for worst, almost every game based on a movie is terrible.Â
I don't know about the best. The Lord of the Rings : Battle for Middle-Earth and The Lord of the Rings : Battle for Middle-Earth II ware really good. Excellent bet for gamers new to RTS genre. shariq166
While you're at it, War of the Rings wasn't that... fascinating.Â

I was talking about the gameplay. You had some well-defined, really good factions. Each faction had a different style. Interface was good and easy to use. Of course the game is not in league with Warcraft III, Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations and other classic RTS. But here we are talking only about Movie-based games.
i bet no one here knows that STALKER was based off a movie?cobrax75
Actually, the game Stalker was based loosely on the novel Roadside Picnic, the movie was also loosely based on the novel.
Good - Doom, it wasnt bad but not the best. How do u take hell.. the core of the in game, the only thing gives it an amazing plot thats unique that nobody has done before. DOOM should be a novel thats how great the story is. I thought the graphics in the movie was good, the acting was good and the zombies/demons were good. My theory why they took out was for gay church (not meaning anyone that goes to church) "I go to church okay", Im talking about the people that are so god freaks they think god makes every decision for them. Like that tom hanks movie, It made it all over the news saying this is bs and that didnt really happen. I think the developers wanted to stay away from that part of the movie to avoid the "church freaks" screaming u cant go to hell from a teleporter"!
Honestly, they did a good recovery job on making something somewhat new for a story but its not DOOM! Doom is meant to be a lone marine going to hell and kill the cyberdemon. Then going home and having earth messed up from another invasion. Overall I gave the movie a 90/100, I understood they had to set-up a plot, what I mean here is that they had to morely focus on making a story than rather people just blowing away zombies. DOOM 2 will be coming out, I think DOOM 2 will be just like DOOM 2 the video games. You go back to Earth and ur sister is infected and infects the whole world!
Â
Worst - Hard to say.... developers now a day love to rip us off. I have many games.... X-Men 3,Spider-man3,Independence Day,Land of dead - oh god that was crap.... u cant kill a zombie with a 22 rifle.
These are the games I honestly think if they would stick to the core of the stories has a great chance of making it huge.
Call Of Duty - The name is plain amazing, use it. Itll do anything for a WW2.. 1 problem too many ww2 movies based like it.
Brother in Arms- This is actually a true story, It'll work being about 14 men and 1 young solider leading 13 men to their outpost all alive.
Half life- Not many people know this but stephen KING wrote this game for valve. I love stephen king movies. He's great at making dead cities feel really gone.
Far Cry - I honestly thought this game had a great conflict, a retired vet on a trip and boom you found bad guys. Then u find out u were really used cuz they knew what was going on. Then you have a problem cuz the science is attacking both of u and u still need the woman.
Ninja Gaiden- This would be fun to see get made, Have ryu kicking some butt!
Crysis- So far with the story it sounds promising. Having u and the koreans fighting over something u know nothing about and to find out theyre aliens. I love 3 way wars, it gives it a spice.
Star Craft- Even tho its RTS, it had a very good story line.. Also, I LOVE! the 3 different races in the game where zerg is fast and quick, the protoss slower but more powerful and finally the terran just out there. I love how all 3 have advantages and disadvantages that command and conquer failed to do.
Mortal Kombat 3 - I loved the first one, thought they did very well. 2nd wasnt good as the first but still good to say its worthy. But, I would like to see a third movie.
Halo - Im not a big fan of halo, Heck I never even stayed interested in the 2nd one but if they have peter jackson pull this off it ll be worth to see. Ithas a good core fora good long lasting story line to sell many in the small billions for sequels.
Metal Gear Solid- Unlike FPS, its hard to make a fps game to movie cuz 1 guy cant take 1000 bullets and kill something 25,000 men on his own.. This with his friend and the people that talk him and how he snakes around would be a great movie. The first MGS was always my favorite game.
Rainbow Six- Just the name sounds awesome, then u have swat!!! make a swat based movie off of them it might be suhweet!

my vote goes to escape from butcher bay - it's not just the best movie/game crossover i've ever played, it's one of the best games i've ever played (and i actually hate the films)
but, being the pedantic bastard that i am, i feel obliged to point out that it's not based on a movie, it's set in the same universe as a movie series - but besides sharing a main character, escape from butcher bay is not based on a riddick movie - it's just another story in the same universe, one totally as legit and canon as the next riddick movie
Â
Good - Doom, it wasnt bad but not the best......MisfitsDanzing
are you on drugs or something? most of those games are original game titles that aren't based on films and don't even have films based on them, and as for doom - maybe i'm getting my numbers confused here but i'm pretty sure 1993 came before 2005
and stephen king didn't write the half life story, marc laidlaw did - it was just vaguely inspired by a short by king called the mistÂ

He's absolutely right. They've never made a movie about a potential invasion from Hell, ever. Err, wait, what about Spawn? Well at least they've never made a movie that could upset the sensibilities of Christian/Catholic beliefs. Err, wait, what about The Da Vinci Code? Oh I know, they wouldn't make a movie that would alter 'accepted' dogma about Heaven/Hell!! Err, wait, what about Dogma, End of Days, Constantine, Omen, The Prophecy, et al ad nauseum.
At least he shows his maturity level by giving 'gay church freaks' a fair shake. Hmm...
At least he knows a good movie when he sees one! Wait, the movie was universally panned (getting 19% at Rotten Tomatoes and 5.2/10 on IMdB) and the Rock was nominated for a Razzie. So yeah, 'great' movie. And last I heard, there was no sequel planned. Search IMdB and Wikipedia, no entries, sorry.
Worst............. errrrmmmmm........ everything......well most everything...some stuff was decent.
Â
Best - RIDDICK
dumbkkid2
Everything? How about Fester's Quest for the NES? Goldeneye 007 for the N64? Jedi Knight II? or the TMNT arcade games?
While movie tie-ins are garbage in a 10:1Â ratio, there are some gems out there.

Â
I remember The Mist. It would be a very long stretch to say that HL was based on The Mist. The Mist is a short story that includes background on a military project opening transdimensional portals but the whole story focuses on a man with a young son with other townsfolk trapped in a market after Chthulu-like monsters emerge from the portal and start eating people.Â
Best in PC: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Best overall: Spider-man 2 and Batman Begins for PS2
Worst in PC: Definetely Spider-man 2.
Worst overall:Â Every single Harry Potter game on PlayStations.Â

Wow whoever did that review is a moron. he's cursing for the sake of it. And isn't funny. I think he's worse then the gameÂ
NO!!! Resident Evil does not count. Please get with the DOOM guy and read the topic at least three times.
As far as the topic is concerned, bought SW Rebellion, beat it and haven't thought of buying movie ports since. I am too cheap to waste good $$$ on weak games.
Butcher Bay. Not only is it the best game based off a movie, its one of the better games ever imo.
Worst, hmmm idunno.

That assumes they have the ability to read.
I bought Rebellion too and I rather liked it. Sure it could have had more to it on the surface, and they could have beefed up the space combat, but overall I'd say it was decent. I'd probably give it a 6.5-7 out of 10, which is playable enough for me most of the time.Â

This guy (and many other profanity-hurling reviewers) appear to be ripping off The Angry Video Game Nerd - who is actually quite funny, and probably worth watching.
