I was just wondering cause I want to load some protection on my new pc, which will protect but at the same time not make my system alot slower. Free of paid I would like an afforable and effective protector. So far I was looking at Norton 2009 gamer edition and AVG free edition and Adaw(does the free expire and do I need to upgrade to the real thing?) Any suggestions and insight is greatly apperciated.

ESET is one of the best and it's gamer friendly. I use it on both my Vista and Windows 7 rig.

Malwarebytes is a good anti-malware program that is free and doesn't require purchase.

On the other hand, ESET does require you to purchase it, but it is one of the best and it's light on resources and works wonders.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Norton 360, or the gamer version. I went from mcafee to norton, and it detected 5 viruses that mcafee never did

Nod32 misses a lot of viruses in my experience, it's just very light. Best free antivirus is avast. Spyware with active monitoring always cost, but I like spybot search and destroy.

Someone needs to do a whole catalog of software to download and the mods need to sticky it. This question comes up way to much.

That's what cnet.com is for. But if you're gonna say that; why not take it a step further and demand a Gamespot Software Forum.

no AVG is better cause norton likes to take over your system a little just to protect you and can cause a bit of trouble.

If you want to pay get Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky.

If you want a free one then get Avira or Avast. If you get Avg you will regret it, it is terrible

Your head. Use your head, that is the best protection you get. Don't download stuff from the internet unless it comes from trustworth websites, or have been recommended by trustworthy sources. Always have your computer ready for if you should get virus. Have your important stuff on other partitions, than the one with Windows on.

I haven't used antivirus programs for years. And I have got no more viruses than when used antivirus software. All that I have got is a lot less annoying pop-ups asking me to update this or scan that. I would much rather spend an afternoon every year formating, installing windows and setting up my stuff again, than I want annoying scans and pop-ups everytime I sit down to use my computer. Actually, I had to do that with antivirus programs too, because they never got any of the really bad stuff anyways. They just got a lot of false positives and small stuff I wouldn't notice anyways. Whenever something really bad hit, they couldn't do anything about it.

Prevx 3.0

Stops millions of bad files

When you install software updates then run the newer files, Prevx authenticates them for you with their online database of good, safe software

Default scan takes only 3 minutes for 45,000 files.

Small footprint in RAM - one executable and one service file

Modifiable levels of both self-protection and heuristics

Does not rely on virus signatures, so all mutations are covered

Any brand-new malware strikes a Prevx user, then all others are automatically protected

Online Tech Support answers emails, and their responses are password-protected for the customer's eyes only
