And nothing that's too expensive, maybe nothing higher than the $300-$500 range.

If you could list more than one that'd be all right, too.

EDIT: I'm getting it built, most likely.

i think he's asking for a pre-built desktop, If you don't want to build our own, i recommend a custom-builder like ibuypower.com, there cheapest is $599.
but if yo insist on a major brand, HP
Dells to restrictive, Acer, compaq and eMachine are major pieces of crap and i don't think Asus makes desktops.
good luck

HP are pretty bad, since they have the highest laptop failure rate i wouldn't buy anything from them.

Honestly, at that price range your best bet is to find the cheapest Dell or HP you're willing to live with and hope for the best.

I've never had problems with my old, old HP desktop, but I mean that was way back when EverQuest was only a couple years old.

Also never had any problems with my Ibuypower laptop.

I built it myself, is the best brand ;D

Pre-built PCs by well known manufacturers are generally horrible. Especially the cheaper models, for example Dell uses integrated videocards in almost all of their systems, which takes away from RAM, in other words ( bad )

HP... well HP doesn't stand for hewlett performance...

Alienware ( dell ) while the systems may be decent, they are extremely overpriced, out of the range you gave.

Apple, even more overpriced and you are stuck with an operating system that can't run 99% of the applications/games available on the market/freeware. ( Virtual PC doesnt count :P )

need I go on? The only real cost effective bang for the buck is custom built computer.

From my experiences, Gateways are pretty solid. Have had better luck with them than Dell or HP.

pre-build is okay as long as you are looking for a HTPC for $500-600 budget.

You get legit OS and hassle free installation.

For gaming pc over $1000, i would suggest you build your own since they usually overcharge high end components on pre-build.

Ibuypower is offering the new amd apu's and their not bad for a budget build. http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/AMD_A-Series_APU for the price their really hard to beat and you always have the option of adding a dedicated vid card later.

HP, Dell and else won't give you that much upgrade options for the same price, they sell their low end pc inside of a toaster case.

so let me get this straight, you want to get into pc gaming, with a new monitor, keyboard mouse and operating system plus the tower for around $300-$500. Hold on i`ll hook you up. There you go bro. You can use your tv as the monitor, and you don`t need to worry about keyboard or mouse either. PC gaming aint for the ultra cheap, no offense.

Personally, I'd go to newegg.com and check their prebuilts.

Sample:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229254

Includes OS, keyboard and mouse.

I don't want to sound elitist, but a 6450 isn't worth having.

with OP's $300-500 budget, 6450 is not bad.

If you're not a gamer why not have integrated? That card isn't much better than integrated.

If its already included with the system, why not? It will also squash intels HD3000 graphics and any integrated solution from AMD thats not an APU. And even then its only slightly worse than llano. For what it is, its a fairly solid card and isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Now if you were talking about a 3450 or even 4350 I'd agree with you.
