I am almost done with Saints Row III (100% all the cities and almost done the campaign) co-op and I had a blast.  One thing I realized, is how much I enjoyed having my own character.  It makes me kinda wish GTA had the same type of customization available, but I can understand wanting to have a preset character for story reasons.

My question is, what games have the best character customization/creation?

I think you nailed it with Saints Row 3 lol.  I have not experienced anything better or more ludicrous than the customization options in that game.

I do recall Everquest 2 having pretty good options, though it has been a while.

Haha yeah, I may sound silly, but some of my favorite times in Saints Row was going to stores and buying all my clothes and accessories :P.  And they gave you a lot to pick from which was great.  My bro was running around in a dress and then later a skirt and short top, and I was more like a badass biker chick or something.  And not the kind with tats and such, but the kind that looks like she belongs in The Matrix :P.

Sims 3, even more so with mods.

Runner ups are City of X and AION.

I'd have to say Eve Online.

I think GTA (being heavily story focused) is one of those games where too much character customization wouldn't work. It would ruin the backgrounds and intensity of the story and characters that are made to be taken fairly seriously. Although, the clothes shops where you could buy different outfits, and accessories were a nice touch. More of that wouldn't hurt.

But the best customization I've seen in a game so far would have to be APB: Reloaded. You can make your character looked like practically anything.

I tried to make my character look like Ghost from Modern Warfare 2, as I think it's a very cool look. But I've seen spiderman, the hulk, and plenty of cool original designs as well as many others.

Saints Row 2 had an even greater customization than 3.

Too bad they removed most of that in 3

Yeah Saints Row 3's character customization is ridiculous lol :D Although I still wish they had some more things in certain categories. Definitely one of the more interesting character customizations I've come across.
