Sim City 4 is still the best city sim I have played. Sad, really, because I love city sims.

Dawn of Discovery is one of the better recent city builders.

Tropico 3 is a lot of fun; what it lacks in depth, it more than makes up for in events and charm

If you can find it, Pharaoh is one of my all-time favorite city builders; the visuals still look great imo, and there is a ton of depth and it is just so damn fun. Likewise, Children of the Nile is another excellent Egyptian-themed city builder

Caesar IV is pretty good, though not as good as Caesar III.

the only City Sim i loved is Sim city 4, i played the game for endless hours, Sim City Societies, City XL, Dawn of Discovery ( r they in the same genre ) and Tropico can't beat Sim City 4, i doubt that EA can bring a good sequel for it :(

Cities XL 2011 is the closest you'll ever get to Sim City 4. It's not as good but it's quite enjoyable. You can try out the demo first :

http://download.cnet.com/Cities-XL-Demo/3000-7480_4-10967943.html

This is the first Cities XL, the newer version has atmospheric sounds, new buildings etc. You can show your city to other players and you can even visit their cities. You can drop in to a third person mode and walk around or using the emotes.

- Dawn Of Discovery and Tropico3 are very fun, bet you would enjoy em if you like Simcity.

Simt City4 is also very good (:

In all honesty, Sim City4 is one of those games that just does not get boring and can last years and years.

Really hard to beat SimCity 4 to be honest - no one has really come close to what made that game so addictive. Dawn of Discovery is a pretty great city/empire building sim with alot of different things to play around with [Anno 1701 is also good and slightly less system intensive]. Cities XL was 'meh' for me and the other city builders have all been misses [especially SC Societies]

Well, Tropico has always been my favorite in the genre, but if you are talking more "classic" city sim, then it would be Sim City 4 of course. Cities XL is total garbage too I might add.

Sim City 4 is the best. Pharaoh comes close, but otherwise its throne is adamant.

Yes, Cities XL 2011 is great. But once the population reaches around 300,000 - 500,000 ( depending on your PC) the performance will drop significantly, it can be unplayable. It only runs on cpu 1 core.. -__-
