I am not looking for anything that gets you a nice feeling when driving like burnout, I am looking for a full blown driving simulation with ultra realistic physics like gran turismo. I don't know if there is such a thing for PC, please share your insigts, thanks.

GTR2, that was pretty realistic last time I played it, I stopped playing because i quickly found out using the keyboard was not a reasonable option

Thanks for all the replies. I looked up GTR2 briefly, it looks like it only contains NASCAR like racers, and the car selection isn't nearly as wide as what Gran Turismo offers. Need for Speed on the other hand never gave me a realistic feeling at all, it did feel good to drive, but like someone have said once, "you can win a race in NFS without letting go of the acceleration once". So there is no games at all even coming close to the likes of GT4?

GTR2 has some nice physics, but the gameplay is not like Gran Turismo. The cars are already modded and there's an absurd amount of cars on the track (my guess is 20+ cars compared to GT's 2 or 6). The closest game to GT that I can think of is Live for Speed. It involves racing fictional street cars and has pretty nice physics. The downside is that those cars are fictional, and they can't be upgraded with parts (though their settings can be adjusted).

GTR2 blows the GT series out of the water in the realism department. Games like GT and Forza are arcade racers when compared to the exquisite driving model GTR has. Also, it's not Nascar type cars. Now, obviously there is not 200-300 cars to choose from, but they make up for that with a few excellent cars that perform beautifully.

GT4 is a joke compared to GTR2, they can't even be compared.

Sounds like GTR2 is really something that I should look into. Aside from a narrower selection of cars, I am still wondering, are those cars fictional or realistic? As well, are there a lot of circuits to choose from?

Do you have a good Force Feedback steering wheel?

According to the website there are 144 cars and 34 tracks so maybe that means 40 actual different car types and only 10 track locations?

You can also download custom car skins (and setups) as well as new tracks. As far as the selection of cars goes, there is plenty, and yes, some of the cars are just different versions/years of the same model, though there is intricate differences between the versions.

You can use pc analog controllers for all kinda racing games. I play NFS series, GTR2 with Logitech rumblepad and it's a lot more fun than keyboard.

The cars in GTR2 are ultra-realistic and, yes, they actually do exist in a racing championship that also actually exists (albeit not in the U.S.). Also, the GTR2 cars offer quite a bit of tuning options. Perhaps there are not as many options for these cars as Forza or GT4, but these tuning options are quite adequate and not nearly as superficial. It's true that GTR2 makes the console games (yes even the "realistic" ones) look like arcade racers. With all of the assists turned off and the game set to realistic, GTR2 is pretty darn difficult and unforgiving. In this game/sim you MUST take the proper race line through every section of every track or you will be left in the dust. You MUST practice to become familiar with each track. This is not the type of game where you can just jump into a car that's faster than everyone else's and just blow them away. The AI actually races against you, and not the track. You want to bump people and put people into walls? Great; they'll do it back and probably wreck you, ending your race day. Seriously, do not get this game if youintend to play with a keyboard, because it can't be done, not on realistic settings anyway. It's playable with a gamepad, but it is very difficult to be competitive. A racing wheel is what's really required to get the most from this game. One like the Logitech G25is ideal (this setup has a clutch pedal and gear box, both of which the game simulates), but very expensive. Allin all, the bottom line is that GTR2 is as real as it gets as far as racing sims to mainstream consumers. This is the Falcon 4.0 of racing sims.

Get GTR2 but it doesn't have a story like nfs series, you cannot upgrade the cars like gran turismo. YOu cannot choose and buy tons of cars like granturismo. SO Gran Turismo is still the best but we didn't get any game that good for pc yet. We're still waitin developers. Please make a game like Gran Turismo for pc or Port it to pc.

That's bad news for me, as I don't have any racing setup at home at all. I was actually intending to play it with keyboard. G25 is too much for me to handle, maybe I'll consider some cheaper but still workable sets, I am looking for one probably in the $50 range.

I have this:

Very good wheel IMO. FF effects are nice, the wheel construction is solid, and is considerably less then the G25.

Also, like the other guy said, if you plan on using the keyboard, just forget GTR2.

If you're on a budget, you'll get away with a decent dual-analog controller. This game has a mode similar to the license challenges of the GTseries. This will teach you the proper driving lines, the cars, tracks, etc. From using a joypad myself I've been able to manage the most difficult of these tests just fine. It's just a matter of learning the game. If you're a GT veteran you'll catch on fairly quickly. Of course a wheel is the best option, but the game is still very playable with a joypad. I would not recommend a keyboard at all if you're into this looking for a realistic sim. With driver assists turned off, you'll probably spin out almost every turn trying to use keys. This isn't anything like the NFS series. If you're trying to use the throttle as an on/off switch, you will become very familiar with the wall.

First of all Gran Turismo is NOT realistic in any way.

Second, if you want nice realistic racing game where cars really act like they are supposed to, get Live for Speed, it's got the best racing physics I've ever encountered.
