Friends, I want the list of best FPS games of this generation. I have played COD series, Crysis 2, F.E.A.R, Far Cry 1, IGI 2, Sniper Ghost Warrior and some others. Please give me the list of best games. I don't like stuff like crafting, hunting, safe houses, buying weapons like in Far Cry 3. Please don't give me the game which was made before 2005.

Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, Battlefield 3, Bioshock: Infinite and Borderlands 2 are all worth playing.

I strongly Recommend not playing Bioshock Infinite and both Borderlands games. How about Unreal Tournament 3 and Battlefield 3 ?

It excels as a RPG, but the shooting isn't what makes Fallout 3 and New Vegas good.

- Crysis 1 and Crysis: Warhead are real good, and pretty different from Crysis 2 (but still with super-suit goodness, just more spread out [things like how the levels are bigger, and the suit powers are more separated]) - Receiver: maybe won't fill the gap of a regular game, it's a game that you operate the different parts of your gun to get it working - Project Reality (a Battlefield 2 mod): multiplayer tactical shooter. big, lots of roles. It's not just about shooting, so might not be what you want, but I'd recommend it if it is!! - I've got Prey sitting by the computer. I haven't played it yet, but it looks like a fun fast paced shooter with some nice sci-fi guns and portals. - I heard Natural Selection 2 is a good multiplayer shooter (I think with some teamwork elements!)

Forget about the Metro games, The Stalker series has every bit of the atmosphere (and then some) without all the hand holding and linearity, it also has some of the best gunplay around with its semi-realistic ballistics modeling. Stalker also has a far more interesting premise and it doesn't shove the story down your throat, it leaves a lot to the imagination.

Prey is a damn good game, it only took me 14 hours to complete but it's supriseingly mind twisty good if your in the mood for a weekend stint.

14 hours sounds like a good time to me! I feel like I usually take a loong time to finish games (so often don't end up beating them ]: ), and short-but-sweet-but-not-too-short can work!

Hard Reset and there's Deus Ex Human Revolution which can be played as a fps, but switches to third person when you hide behind cover at times.

There's a deluge of shooters this gen so that's a extremely hard pick to narrow. One of my favourites goes to STALKER Call of Pripyat.

And plenty of people strongly recommend playing them. Unless user scores, critic reviews, and sales collectively have no correlation with a game's quality all of a sudden.

Sales are correlated to marketing, brand power and franchise appeal, in most cases it has nothing to do with quality.

I'm talking about the gameplay. For example the gravity gun was a big deal in how it let you manipulate the environment in ways you couldn't before. But we're way past that. The enemies AI are also incredibly dumb. The atmosphere still works, but other more modern games does it better anyway. And I personally can't stand the silent protaganist BS anymore.

Ah righto. Well yeah, the game is pretty old now so some gameplay mechanics of course have evolved. It's still a fun game but obviously not as good as if u played it at launch.

I picked the 'sales' element from the collective and stated my opinion on it, which is that it almost never correlates to quality, and doesn't have a place in this trio of attributes that supposedly define the quality of a game.

Counterstrike source (pre orangebox patching.)  So very frustrating that CS:GO is no where near as good in terms of how it plays.

Stalker series... leaves a lot to the imagination.PernicioEnigma
. Like when I thought I finished off a mob knifing the final one crying on the ground to silence. Stand up...then I'm staring at the back of his panicking friend. I sigh in relief, pump'im with lead and live another day. The A.I. Is so organic in Stalker: SoC. Some random encounters are gold in that game.

CS Source was awful too, in comparison to the original. Source Engine is bloated and unsuitable for FPS games.

HL2 created those modern gameplay mechanics. That's why people should play it - it's a history lesson for video game evolution.

Thats a terrible reason to play an old game. Does anything good even come out of that, sure as didn't System Shock and President Evil any favours.

Dated or not, Half Life 2 is still one of the best FPS ever created. I played it at launch and was amazed. I played it last year again with the cinematic mod and it's still awesome today.
