best free anitvirus?

what is the best free antivirus out there?  i have been using notorn for years but i just dont want to pay anymore?

AVG. I also used Avast but it's not as good as AVG, which I'm using now.

AVG has been problem free for me.  Better than PCillin that I was paying for.

I use AVG since 2 years, and it works just fine. Alot of viruses have been blocked since then, and never had trouble.

= Antivir best (of the free ones). It also has a much nicer interface than any other free av.. Just an fyi ;)

Yes. Worms are the main focus these days. Rootkits are next.

will i notice a differnce with my pent 4  1 gig ram, when i am using this free software compared to my nortorn.  i mean system resourses

Yes make sure after you unistall Norton you download and run SymNRT.exe to completely remove it.  Also, BounceDK mentioned that rootkits are a main focus.  rootkits are ETREMELY rare on the interwebs.  IDK of any AV programs that removes them.  There are very few that even detect them

Considering how big of a resource hog Norton can sometimes be, I would expect yes.

eiasily AVG it works well plus lots of pc magazines give it away on their disks and they can't all be wrong
