I believe there are a lot of abandonwares that are free to download, but I do not know much about them - try Googling "abandonware games" . As for the typical free MMORPG, I recommend Perfect World. You can also try the sticky above with the freeware games. Off the top of my head, Soldat was a good freeware game; it was like a 2D Unreal Tournament. Gamehippo.com was a good site for indy freeware, but it's not available now. I guess you can try the freeware section of megagames.com, but I don't think it has a rating system.
