boss fights are very important, its pretty much essential to round off a great game with a great finish. so im wondering what you guys thought was the best and worst?
please post SPOILER warnings if necessary and the name of the game BEFORE you post the boss fight

i feel the standard of boss fights can be a little bit low, for example:

Mass effect:

the final fight was a little boring for me, and not especially imaginative (concept was good), cutscenes were great but the actual fight let it down a bit IMO

max payne 2:

the fight against ******* was lame tbh, and a dull finish imo

Crysis:

nuf said, im sure many agree here

games that got it right:

Call of Juarez

Half Life 2

Half life 2 episode 1

half life 2 episode 2

the witcher

discuss:)

Any bosses in Fallout 3 or Oblivion are lame (Except maybe Umbra from Oblivion.) They don't do anything special that other enemies don't.

I enjoyed F3 and Oblivion, but yeah, there are not really any memorable boss fights...just a lot of fights.

The Witcher has some pretty good boss fights.

Vampire Bloodlines: Masquerade has several exciting and challenging boss fights. I should play that again.

i have bloodlines, but i cant really get into it. the concept is great, but the combat seems so dodgy. ive just done the level in the haunted hotel which was great, does the game speed up a bit?? any mods to recommend?

The toughest fights I've experienced in my gaming career so far were in NWN 2 ( those that played the game, and finished it know what i mean ;) ). Honorable meantions : DMC 4, Mafia, Protoype. The least challenging boss fights you already mentioned.

Well, if you haven't gotten into the game by this point, it may not be for you. At least play through Dr. Grout's Mansion.

My best boss fights were back in my PSX days, Metal Gear Solid, the Playstation one, best boss fights of my life. Can still remember freaking out when Psyho Mantis deleted my save game for the first time lol. Always enjoyed those techno-thriller-shoot-em-up-bosses on the old consoles when I was a kid :P They had the coolest sound tracks too :P And for PC I haven't had any good boss fights >.>

Other Favs:

The Resident Evil 2 bosses

The Resident Evil: Director's cut bosses

The bosses in Fear Effect, if they can be called that

The bosses in Kingdom hearts, not bloody, but fun :P

Hmm...Well, the final boss fight in Lost Planet was...Unexpected. And AMAZING. It was like, you played through the entire game and by the time you reached the final boss fight you felt comfortable with all of the game's mechanics, and it was starting to feel kinda easy. So they add in a completely new mechanic that makes the game play COMPLETELY different and then its like "OMGWTF" I swear that that boss fight is also more than enough evidence that if Capcom ever made a Gundam Wing game it would be epic.

There was fight with a dragon in NWN2 that I thought was pretty intense. Also, Tomb Raider Legend had some difficult fights that I had to reload many times to complete.

Oh and as far as most difficult boss fight I would say pick any of the Ninja Gaiden fights on the hardest difficulty setting, made me want to kill myself, really.

I'd completely forgotten about Lost Planet! I loved that game. Every level had a boss fight! I need to play it again.

Speaking of horrible, unimaginitive, and ridiculously easy boss fights: Bioshock.

People liked the final boss fight in Lost Planet? I thought it was buggy and boring not to mention the hardest part in the game.

A mention from the yesteryears: Loved the railgun battle against Xaero in Quake 3. When everyone else was playing UT, I was the only Quake fan in the neighborhood. I still feel like going back to the game and playing through the single player death matches "One More Time". And by the way, the fight against M. Bison in Street Fighter 2 is always awesome. The gong sound of the bells never get old :)

I prefer MMO bosses. They are the best I've seen in any game due to the experience of the preperation, the build-up and interacting with other players to finish the fight.

tbh... console titles ( at least the 6th gen ) tend to have better boss fights.

Last fight of witcher was way too easy compared to previous boss fights which was epic.

The worst boss fight i have ever seen in a video game is the final boss fight from orginal Half life.I mean who in the sane mind would have thought of a big fat cute baby as final boss for half life.Boss fight was just horrible.Even the last few missions were horrible.

There aren't very many boss fights that were very memorable to me on PC. Most PC games seem to focus on other things besides bosses, at least to me. Fallout 1 & 2 had some decent bosses, as did Half-Life and Opposing Force. Duke Nukem 3D had a good end fight as well, but other than that I can't really think of any bosses in PC games that compare to bosses in console games like Metroid or Zelda.

I thought the bosses in Lost Planet were great as well and the airport level and last part in Mafia were very challenging and memorable. I think FEAR didn't necessarily have bosses, but the invisible ninjas were frickin badass. I agree wholeheartedly with the poster before that stated MMOs have the best bosses right now. I would add Final Fantasy to that mix as well as far as all of their games are concerned.

It also seems like bosses have kindof become a thing of the past. That could also be the genre that I'm playing though which atm is more realistic type games, CoD, Battlefield, L4D (not realistic, but no bosses if you don't consider the tank)

Well, if you haven't gotten into the game by this point, it may not be for you. At least play through Dr. Grout's Mansion.

I literally just played through bloodlines, and i loved it, especially the boss fights, they aren't too simple, and challenging which is all part of the fun!
