Half Life 2 is a great game and up there, as are several others. None really is quite on the level of Deus Ex though.

Portal 2. Everything about it is as close to perfect as possible with a game.

solitaire. every pc has it on it. so it must be the best of all time.

I don't know but these have to be among the finalists,

hl2, crysis, dao, tw, wow

I think bf 3 should set a new standard for FPS and graphics so I guess the best is still to come

If I had to pick just one it would be Starcraft.

First game that enters my mind when someone ask that question is Day of The Tentacle.

No such thing, there are a lot of fantastic games, just like you can't choose the best movie ever created, best book, best song, best car. What really is a "best" game? is it story? cutscenes? depth? soundtrack?atmosphere?art style?particular genre?gameplay? some games have all of them to some degree some have just a few but well beyond the ones that have some of each, you just can't choose one. Perfect is ultimate, but perfect does not exist, since the best game would have to be perfect it also doesn't exist (only perfection would define a single game in the sea of excellent titles created so far). I have no idea why people have such limited questions, because as dangamit said it's been asked to death.DanielDust

You know Daniel, I completely disagree with your COD Opinion in the other thread..

But I pretty much completely agree with you in this thread lol. The best is just opinion of the one(s) that usually entertains you (or any said person) the most. Though like you stated, so much goes into that formula.

But a flat-out General/Universal best.... Hasn't happened, at least not yet, nothing is impossible, but I don't see it coming.

About the perfection not existing, but it does. Even if it exists only in an Ideal or concept, it is still more existing, than (also) not existing in Ideal or Concept. :P But thats just not really all that relevant lol.

They are limited questions though, and in a way, belittle most (if not all) of the games in a way.

I Try to embrace most games. Some just don't do it for me, some do provide enough of the stimulation/reward for me to be entertained (and yes to a degree learn, Play is intellectual ie: the species that plays the most, is the most intellectual, Humans, Dolphines, Monkeys)

Same could also be said about the Worst Game of all time too lol. :D

Civilization 2(the one that started the one more turn syndrome), Fallout 2, and Half-Life 1 for me. Surprisingly most prefer HL2 to HL1.

Fallout 2 was IMO the best game ever created.

Plot, atmosphere, sound - easily the best of any game ever made. It's a little dated graphics wise obviously and certainly the combat/AI isn't what you'd expect from a modern game but the rest more than makes up for it.

Quite simple really, play it. It is the best game ever made.
