For me there are several great game stories:

1. KOTOR
2. Bioshock
3. GTA-San Andreas
4. Planescape-Torment
5. Fallout 2
6. Grim Fandango
7. Soul Reaver
8. The Longest Journey
9. Metal Gear Solid
10. Gears of War

If I had to choose the best out of these ten games, I would say it is a tie between KOTOR and Planescape-Torment.

For me it is FFVII.

Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1 n 2, AC2.

Max Pane 1 and 2 for me. Half Life 2 is also good.

Yeah I just bought and beat Jade Empire on the Steam sale. Great game, and very underrated.

Planescape Torment, Half Life and Mass Effect series. I don't know if they're the best, but they've been the one's I've found the most interesting.

My thoughts (links are to my reviews of the games nominated).

Max Payne and Max Payne 2 .... the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

World in Conflict Complete Edition ... with its Tom Clancyesque switching of the perspectives: US and Soviet.

Men of Valor ... an excellent insight into the Vietnam War, through the eyes of a Negro soldier.

Vietcong ... another great 'Nam game with a good story.

MOH: Pacific Assault ... the MOH game with the best narrative.

Velvet Assassin ... a dark story about WWII behind the lines ... a few will no doubt disagree with this nomination as the story and the characters motivations make more sense at the end of the game (due to it being told largely in flashback).
