[QUOTE="stele29"]I like my dell 24".CellAnimationI have a 2408WFP here. Best monitor I've owned. The Dell Ultrasharp series are some of the best monitors money can buy. I've used a Dell Ultrasharp 19" for years, but recently upgraded to a widescreen Samsung 26" T260. Beautiful monitor and beautiful design but I wish I could have purchased a Dell Ultrasharp 26". Unfortunately, money IS an issue and that monitor is alot more than Im willing to spend. Still, my new Samsung is stunning and you get alot of bang for the buck.
[QUOTE="stele29"]I like my dell 24".CellAnimationI have a 2408WFP here. Best monitor I've owned. I'm gaming on my Dell 2405 and it awesome. The only thing I think it's missing are the HDMI ports that the 2407 has. If it were HDCP compliant then I guess it really wouldn't matter, but it's not so...yeah =(
CRT is the way to go. No native resolution BS and perfect black. I will never give up my Viewsonic P97f+.HenriH-42Its a trade off imo.. On one end CRT's are alittle cheaper, sport a slightly nnoticably beter screen, and can support a huge range of resolutions.. LCD's are lighter, much smaller, are widescreen (whcih is way better imo than the crt monitors), easy on the eyes.. In the end if you get a LCD for gaming, just don't be stupid enough in getting one with a native resolution of 1080p.. 1680X1050 tops imo.. Any higher and you will be kicking your self because as games get newer and you are forced to keep such at a very high resolution you will destroy your performance later on.

I have the 2407 Rev .04 and it has no HDMI ports. They didn't show up till the 2408.

Thats not true anymore. I've been gaming at 1920X1200 for over two years now. The newer video cards are all optimized for 1920+. I admit it was trickier early on because I had to turn some games down to get a decent framerate on my ATI 9800 PRO but since the 8000+ nvidia came out I have had no problem cranking it up. I can never go back to lower res.
Edit : 1080P = 1920X1080 < 24" native = 1920X1200 = uber.

Really?! I thought I missed out on HDMI by just a year. Well that make me feel a bit better about purchasing it in early 06.CRT's still rule, if your a hardcore gamer.1q3er5
I'd agree with you except for that fact that widescreen is not easily viable as a computer user with a CRT, and without widescreen you are handicapping yourself, considering most new game software is designed using widescreen as the rule and not the exception. There is also the problem with high resolution. Unless you forking out thousands, most crts in the 19-21" range have a max res of 1600X1200 at 60hz, which can create a fuzzy mess. The better crts have 72-75 hz availiable for this resolution, but its hard to find them. You can still use pixel mapping to play older software at there native resolutions...true, you'll lose a little screen realestate but with a 24" screen you still end up with a screen equivilent in size to a 17" CR, unless you drop to 640X480..which the newer LCDs can scale very well. In fact, LCD tech has greatly improved so much that they are superior in almost every way. Connectively, foot print, max resolution, clarity. So I counter that arguement, saying that current day "hardcore" gamers have 24"+ LCDs running at least 1920X1200, which is the domain of the new video cards. I'd still keep the crt for rainy day nostalgia kicks in and you need support for resolutions as low as 320. People talk about CPU and GPU bottenecks all the time, but the CRT is also a bottleneck. Its time to move on.
My current CRT monitor (19") supports 1600x1200 @ 85 Hz, 1920x1440 @ 70 Hz and 2048x1536 @ 60 Hz. Why would I "upgrade" to LCD monitor when I'd get lower resolution (unless I pay A LOT), trouble with native resolution and I have never seen a LCD monitor with black that is nothing short of atrocious. Also, the size of a monitor doesn't really matter, since I'm just a few centimeters away from the monitor anyway. LCD just isn't worth it IMO, and I'm lucky to have 5 backup CRT's when my current one dies (and you can get them used for REALLY cheap, I found a 21" CRT for just 10 euros.)HenriH-42
First, your monitor is not considered normal by any standpoint...it was/is extremly high end even when crts were common and would have cost alot, same as high end LCDS today. I do agree with your black levels, but that is changing. The latest LCDs have extremly high contrast levels. The one thing I would recommend trying a good LCD. Like you, i used to sit inchs away from my 19" crt. Now I sit about 18 inches from my 24" and can't imagine going back to that. It was wierd at first, but the additional clarity is amazing. But I will concede that it is all in the eye of the beholder. I'd like to know what software your using that won't run at current native resolutions other than old games. I run a seperate machine for those sorts of games.
1600+ on a 17" screen. holy cow. The text must be crazy small 1920 and above. Are you using one of the monitors used for design?
