the sapphire 4870 1 gig is excellent, I replied on your other topic. This would be my choice. The XFX 4870 is also very good but you have to get past the BIOS update if you have 64 bit vista or XP it could be a problem. So I would say go with the sapphire 4870 is you best bet right now and its under 250 save a little why not. 1680x1050 all very high 2aa crysis smooth. I have the XFX 4870 1 GIGXXX.

Yah, that's like 2x what he's wanting to pay, apparently not paying attention to the op. He asked the best you can get for $250, not the best GPU overall.
If you don't want to wait for newer GPU's, then a 4870 1GB is well worth it or a GTX 260 216 Core like most have said. If you can squeeze out a bit more cash, GTX 280 or 285 are great. ;)
