I am looking for a good graphics card within 100-200 dollar mark. Thing is i have no idea which one to get.

I have gotten a couple suggestions but i want to widen my horizon with more choices. Which ones do you guys think i should go for? Or is 100-200 bucks too little for a graphics card?

Either the HD4850 or the 9800GTX.

The HD4850 is faster than the 9800GTX in most cases and it also has DX10.1 support (Nvidia is expected to release DX10.1 GPUs in Q4 2008 or Q1 2009). The main disadvantage of the HD4850 for me is that it is a single slot card which means it will dump all the heat (and there's quite a bit of that) inside your case.

The HD4850 is a much better choice.

The $168 after MIR pretty much seals the deal, and infact the HD4850 is a more powerful card as well. More over, The Witcher is a game so much better than.... Lost.

Well whats your powersupply information ?? We can't recommend a card unless we know that info because for all we know, you might not have enough amps let alone pci connectors.

honeslty i havnt built m pc yet and have no idea how much amps/watts i need. The results ive gotten is interesting. I was thinking an 8800GT was dominating this price range but clearly i am lagged behind in terms of the answers i have recieved. Thanks for the support guys.

ncix.com is great for Canadians, but I like to go with www.memoryexpress.com, becuas they offer instant replacement packages with cards. If you go for a 4850, get the VisionTek for its lifetime warantee, but if you go with any brand and its from memory express, then you got the instant replacement plan. I only shop at these 2 stores, tigerdirect alot of people use too.

I think so yes, the 4850 would give you some of the most superb performance on Crysis that is available now. I do have to say that some games like some cards better than others. SO you might not get the BEST performance wit this card but you will get somewhere close.

now this is not saying much since this game wont run on average more that 60 fps on any card in the market today.

EDIT: plus for the price your paying for this card? i believe you are getting unmatched performance. in the ned you only get what you pay for right?

Is there a considerable amount of difference besides the markup of $100?

Truth be told, yes.

If you use some cheap-o PSU, it can screw up your PC.

maybe, maybe not, i think on average what i've looked at there's an average gain of around 10-15 FPS between the 4850 and 4870. but if your not building now then i would go with what PointedCow said and what like a month or two and it'll be around $250

so it depends if you think 10 fps is a formitable gain

The 4870 is only 20% over the 4850. All the 4870 has is GDDR5 mem, a higher clock, and a better cooler. Personally I don't think $100 justifies getting a 4870 over a 4850.
