Can anyone recommend me good graphics cards under $100?

My bus is PCI express x16 (not 2.0)... how much is that going to affect the peformance of graphics cards which use PCIe v2.0? Will they even work?

The difference between PCIe x16 and 2.0 are not noticeable at all. In fact, there isn't even a difference. No card really takes advantage of PCIe 2.0.

In short, yeah, as long as you have an available slot, it will work.

Maybe a 4850, and graphics cards are compatible with older generation PCIx slots.

That is a really bad choise for the best card under $100, it's even a "low power" version that is less performing than the 8800GT were originally.

HD4850 for $87.99 mop the flor with that 9800GT.

Sure 4850 its faster but 9800gt isnt bad. Its only 10-15% slower than the 4850 and faster than current gen $100 cards like the 5670. Also the one posted here is $27 cheaper than the 4850 so all in all is a great choice (especially if the Psu isnt all that great considering this is a low power 9800gt )

Yeah so Swehunt is absolutely correct ! I second him.

As such the reference/frugally overclocked 9800gt can't compete with a reference HD4850, and this is a low-power one 9800gt (read power efficient 8800gt) with even lower shader speed than an reference 9800/8800gt.I say go for what Swehunt says-a HD4850.From what I see the card he suggested has very good cooling system too.

If you intend to let your budget be $99.99 (well, technically below $100), then consider the EVGA GTS450 from TigerDirect.EVGA GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) FPB 1GB GDDR5 PCIe

id still go 4850

a 9800gt was a heck of a ride back in the day but its got no life left in her for higher quality gaming.. a 4850.. eh she's got a while.

i had a 4850 before my current 5830.. and man did she fly.. those things were built like a tank!

An 8800gt or 9800gt is still very respectable for up to about 1680x1050 at most. Obviously a 4850 is noticeably faster and would be the better choice for this budget.

There is an HD 5750 on amazon for $77 after a $30 MIR. I'm thinking of getting that myself. (from HD 4670) It seems to be around the 4850 in performance, but it has dx11, and could do eyefinity.

Depending on his PSU, he might not be able to run a 4850. His best bet would possibly be a 5670, 5750 if he's lucky enough.
