Okay, first off forgive all of my postings asking almost the same questions over and over, but I was THIS close to getting the 5770 mainly because of the directx11, but after doing some more reading on here and comparing the performance between the 250 and 5770, I think for the money the 250 might be the better way to go since directx11 isn't all that important at this time, and some of said the performance of directx11 on the 5770 isn't that great.

So, there are just too many versions of the 250 to post links to so I figure it'll be easier to just ask which would be the best one to go with. I'd prefer to go with one on the lower end of the price scale, of possible. Like around $120, but if this one here just as good as the rest that would be great. I definitely want a 1GB.

Thanks.

There is roughly a twenty dollar difference and you are being cheap over it. DX 11 isnt important right now but wouldn't you rather have it than not?

I was thinking that it would be nice to have it, but the 5770 that sounded like the best one cost 170, and I can get a 250 for 99, or was that 89...The cheapest 5770 is like 150.

I think the previous post was made under the assumption that the GTS 250 was around 130, which it is on Newegg. If you can get one for 100 bucks, then by all means, go for it. However, know that good brands, such as evga, BFG, and XFX tend to be a little pricier. So much so that the ATI counterpart, the 4850, is actually cheaper. Just check the prices between them, and go with whatever is cheapest.

ummm, no real advice?

Another note choosing between this and the 5770, I have no problem spending an extra few bucks for the 5770 since it can run directx11, but I'm hearing that although it's CAPABLE of it that it will do a crap job at it, so I'm thinking based on the performance between the two and not factoring in Directx11, that the 250 for like 50 bucks cheaper is a much better way to go...

P.S. I'm assuming from what I've seen that the only real advantage the 5770 has over the 250 is the 11 thing. The 5770 is ddr5 and 250 ddr3, but the 5770 is also 128 bit and 250 256, so I'm ASSUMING not really knowing about cards that it balances out, or maybe even is in favor of the 250 as far as those specs go.

Yeah just like ravenguard90, If you can get GTS250 under 100 then go for it... 5770 better than gts250, so if you have 150 to spent 5770 will be...

I actually just bought one of these as a 3rd card to do my physx processing. It's a really nice card. It was cheap too, less than 100 on newegg.

Do not get the HD5770 for DX11, get it because it performs on par of a GTX260 and its cheaper.

Just like wklzip said, the HD5770 is faster, theyre not in the same performance, HD5770 is better in just about all aspects but not the price and Physx support.

The HD4850/HD5750 is the gts250 counterpart not the HD5770.

You seem hooked on the 128bit bus but actually don't know that the card performs much better than a 8800GTX witch have a 384Bit memory bus, the theroretical and practical usage isn't the same.

A HD5750 is near the performance of a gts250 and often in the same price, but the HD4850 witch is in the same performance is usally cheaper and a wiser choise if you dont care about PhysX.

I agree with swehunt outside of the 4850 being the wiser choice. That to me is a wrong assessment as the 4850 uses more power and runs hotter then a gts 250 for a identical price range. Now to finding the best gts 250, be sure to watch the core clock. I've noticed many of the gts 250 reference cores are under clocked severely on newegg and tigerdirect. (738 graphics clock 1836 shader clock is nvidia reference).

Um, well the HD4850 is cheaper just about evrywhere and by a margin, the powerdraw and temps vary from card to card, gts250 and HD4850 are roughly equals in almost all aspects. HD4850 is almost hard to find with the refference cooler nowdays, most AF heatsinks offer very cool temps.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134094 Best I can see for the price. Not underclocked like some other gts 250's and a nice price. Oh free game too is a nice plus.

Didn't even know that elitegroup did GFXcards...

I still recomend the $30 cheaper saphire Dualslot Fansink HD4850 for $79.99 from newegg witch runs cooler and do offer the same performance. ;) ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824&cm_re=HD4850-_-14-102-824-_-Product )

If ECS handle their support on gfx as they do on motherboards i wouldn't get that gts250 because they've treated me like crap, but thats just my single experience with them it's not in general as i havn't had guts to try out anything from them ever since.

(had tons of problem with the motherboard in the second rig.)
