Dark Messiah and Mount & Blade. Only two games I know with decent melee mechanics.

Come on now, are you seriously arguing that Diablo, TQ, etc, are not hack an slash games or RPGs? god, what's with some of you, does it really matter? they are action adventure rpgs or hack and slash games, it's a fact, no matter if you consider them something else...

Why do some of you always have to go into such meaningless and mind bending conclusions, when the threads in question didn't ask anything of your ideas and conceptions about games, just what are the games in a certain genre(it applies to a wide variety of games)that you consider very good.

If you want to contemplate on something and come up with new subgenres and little details that even you wouldn't bother with but you say them anyway, then think about DMC and NG not being true hack and slash games like the very games you argued about (Diablo, TQ).

If we'd analyze every single aspect of a game, we'd have a genre for every new game, because not all games are identical in gameplay, concept, themes, etc. Fallout 3 is a RPGGJ, RPG with guns and jump, ME1/2 is an RPGGLJ, RPG with guns and lack of jump...

That being said, its not necessarily a Hack and Slash but Blade of Darkness is definetly the most fun ive ever had with those kind's of games. You could cut off the limbs of Goblins and such and use them as weapons, it was incredibly fun at the time.

Also, Hack-N-Slash isnt a GENRE, its a style of gameplay.

DMC is arcade hack n slash. Diablo is action-RPG hack n slash.zomglolcats

The Diablo series is not really a true RPG, thought everyone knew that.

Its an Action RPG, but Action is not an adjective here, and Diablo/Diablo 2 are far more Action hack-n-slash games than any semblance of an RPG.

Best hack-n-slash game IMO is Diablo 2's offspring, Guild Wars. The original (Prophecies) is the best. Guild Wars adds more strategy to the hack-n-slash formula as its skill-based rather than items based.

...and yes GW is an Action RPG, though it requires a bit more brainpower (in tough areas or in Hard Mode) than the typical hack-n-slash

hack and slash hmm Diablo 2 LoD, nowdays modern good H&S game is Torchlight which is kind of great knock' out of Diablo 2,

soon Diablo 3 is going to be released which is awesome

Do you guys have any idea what the hell is a hack n slash game? I guess not because you all just named rpg's and what not. Hack n slash is a game where you have a badass character infront of you with a sword or some type of weapon about to rain hell on people with it. Your going to cut their head off or cut their legs. Hack n Slash is usually synonymous with action RPGs, especially for the PC. It got its name for a style of play from D&D which dealt with characters just killing monsters and taking loot with little regard to plot and character progression. Considering the term started with an RPG, I don't see how a hack n slash game with RPG elements excludes it automatically from being a hack n slash game. It's a broad definition.

I consider Devil May Cry and The Force Unleashed to be true hack n' slashers. Unfortunately only 1 of the 2 is actually a good game.

Dead Rising 2 and Darksiders are 2 of the best pc hack n slashes. Also Force unleashed 2.And some hack n slashes that are coming on pc on a few months are:
