best hard drive out there?

i am a hardcore gamer, i need at least 300gb of storage. what is the best, least expensive, biggest, fastest, etc. hdd for me?

500gb 640gb and 1tb are all awesome value and have much the same performance get how ever much space you feel you need, I'd go for the 1tb as you can never have to much space.

yea im trying to choose between a 1tb thats 7200rpm and 32mb cache,and a 300gb thats 10000rpm and 16mb cache.... which is better??

If it were me, the veloci-raptor. I have the 146 10K raptop, and luv it, evrything is so much faster, dunno how i lived with 7200rpm

i'd take the space over speed 300gb isn't that much anymore. 7200rpm 32mb hdds are pretty fast and beat the old raptor 10000 drives.

The best you can get for that price for a consumer PC would be 3 X25-Es in RAID0, that should give you 300gb storage and read speeds of around 700mb/s

well i dont wanna spend $500 on hard drives... 2 new 300gb velociraptors would cost that much. On the otherhand the 1tb drives are like $99.

IMO there isn't much point in spending loads on a HDD, you should just get a decent western digital HDD, they're good enough. You could throw a few of them in RAID, but there sitll isn't much point. If you want speed go for a solid state drive (SSD) they are four times faster than HDDs, but eight times more expensive. It's up to you. :P
