Corect answer

There is no such thing as "best settings" because each TV model is different and even TV's of the same model are different from lot number

You will want a calibration disc for films but for gaming I find its best to adjust it further more, also gaming modes usually look like crap with far too much contrast and its easy to set up your own and still get the same response time.

Rough idea of samsung settings though is usually:

Contrast 75-80

brightness 55-60

colour 50

sharpness I think 15 ish, you should be able to have it at zero a lot of people say but I find the little extra looks nice ^_^.

Colour tone normal for gaming, warm for films but again for films you will want to calibrate it properly (even if you only use the THX set up that comes with star wars movies or something).

That is a general starting area because room lighting and just your own taste effect the out come, leave off effects like dynamic contrast and motion plus for gaming and if you have the option enable the lower black levels 8).

Most factory settings "modes" are overblown in the wrong directions. Either buy a disc or go all out and buy an actual calibration tool like a spyder or something. I kept the one i used at my last job as a severance of sorts and i am very pleased with it.

If you've got a Pixar, Star Wars or any other DVD movie marked with the THX logo, play the DVD through your game console(s) and select the THX Optimizer, usually found in the Setup menu. Step through the process, following the instructions. For best results, you will want to order a set of THX Blue Filter glasses to help with the color settings during this process. It is also recommended you perform this procedure under the same lighting conditions you usually have while playing games on the TV (same time of day, same room lighting, etc.)

That's the cheapest way to get the optimal picture settings on your set.

If you don't have a THX movie, a similar calibration toolcan be found on disc 2 of the Halo 3 Collector's Edition, or you can buy a more advanced tool such as Digital Video Essentials.

Also you may not need a blue filter. Not sure if this started with the Samsung 5 series, but your TV should have a "blue only" mode under "Picture Options". This is more ideal than a blue filter for setting color and tint, as there is no guarantee that a given blue filter will match the exact wavelength and color of blue being output by your TV. If you need help with any of the settings let us know and we can probably help, but I would also suggest you try a THX optimizer or the Halo 3 calibrator on the collector's edition disc 2. Digital Video Essentials is a tad more advanced, but is definitely better than those two if you want to learn how to use it.

Just checked out the game mode on my TV, only think I found was that it darkened the image and took a lot of colour away. I couldnt tell the difference in responsiveness
