Try stalker...people say it's good looking game...I don't know what to tell you since there aren't alot of good looking games for PC at the moment(Well I mean graphicaly stunning like Crysis or some other new ones)...in november most of the good looking games start to come out.....
I would either say Farcry, Company of Heroes, Painkiller, Team Fotress 2, but dude get a GTX. GTS is a waste, you will only be able to run Crysis high-medium. What are your other specs? Ram? CPU?MatrixSpidey92
Dude, Far Cry is a 4 year old game...it's outdated now...

Even though it's not the newest game on the block it can still give the card a good workout with all the settings turned up.I'd tryout Bioshock, FarCry, COD4 demo, FEAR etc etc.

Uh, no. The 8800GTS is by far the best buy out there right now. It currently has the best high-end price:performance ratio.
As for Crysis, I'll be surprised if the 8800GTS can't max it out. And if the 8800GTS isn't able to, I really doubt an 8800GTX would be able to either, since the performance difference between the two isn't exactly huge (10-20%?)
As for games to try: Go with titles like STALKER, Bioshock, and Supreme Commander to test what your rig is capable of.
Yeah I would also recommend a GTX. And since you want to play games withhigh agraphical performance I would suggest you buy some more RAM, upgrade to like 4 Gigs or sum. Especially for games like Crysis.
Here are the games I would try:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
COD4 demo
World in Conflict
Bioshock
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
F.E.A.R.
Jericho Demo
Timeshift Demo
Rainbow Six Vegas
I could name more if you would like. I doubt the user who stated there are no good looking games on PC right now doesn't play much PC games or doesn't own a good enough PC to know. I know he added that looked as good as crysis, but come one, nothing looks that good right now, a little unfair.
You can also download the UT3 Beta/Demo, it's quite awesome.KiwiforBrain
Just a little note: The UT3 Beta-demo doesn't include high-quality game resources. So far, it's been confirmed that the top two tier graphical settings for texture detail aren't available in the demo (they were cut out to make the demo smaller.)
Still looks great though.
the gtx is twice the price so the price to performance ratio is way off. The gts is the most practical high end card right now because it is right in the sweet spot as far as price goes. Unless you have gobs of money to waste a gts should suit you just fine. And beleive me I have done my homework.Hungryboy80
thats prety mutch wot i thought, and as i sed above i cant realy aford a gtx
31137r4v3n: You don't need to justify your purchase to me. But since you made the effort, might I recommend trying to do so without the aid of such uninformed nonsense?
Hey velo : Just because a gts cant max it out doesnt mean anything. A gtx has 30 percent more shaders, in some cases over twice the amount of memory and have you looked at the numbers???31337r4v3n
"30 percent more shaders?" You can't even use technical terms properly..not surprising considering you actually think video memory is a significant advantage of the 8800GTX over the 8800GTS. Games are still FAR from being able to fully utilize 640MB-720MB of video memory..even when using post-processing effects and multisampling which significantly increase framebuffer size. By the time mainstream games utilize such huge amounts of memory, these cards are likely to be very outdated. You also seem to be attempting to compare raw statistics, which is a pointless endeavor. Use real-world benchmarks.
Especially in dx10 games the performance difference is staggering. Over 50 percent in most games...do your homework before you try to spout at the mouth. 31337r4v3n
Yeah right. Get back to me when you've taken a look at some benchmarks.
Yes, the 8800GTX is obviously a better performing card. I simply said the 8800GTS is the better buy. No need to make yourself look like a complete ass.
128 stream processors compared to 96...hmmm 30 percent more...go back to your ps3 forums. the first really taxing game called world in conflict can fill 768 megs of frame buffer. my 640 RAN OUT OF frame buffer. enuff said. 31337r4v3n
I suggest you stop. It's pretty obvious you have no idea what you're talking about.
How exactly does one "run out of frame buffer?" ..*sigh* Are you making this stuff up as you go along?

Wonder why they didnt even compare the 640 in the dx10 performace guide??? BECAUSE IT DOESNT PLAY AT PLAYABLE levels. the gtx at 16x12 runs at a playable framerate...the 640 doest not (in dx9). on newegg a gtx is a little over 100 dollars more. is that extra 6 months of gaming at a playable framerate worth 100 bucks??? save for an extra week and get the gtx...the gts will be your bottleneck.
(World in Conflict, Bioshock, Oblivion, Company of Heroes and the UT3 demo. Gears of War also comes out in 2 weeks) agreed, all of these are GREAT games.

31337r4v3n
It wasn't included because they were quite obviously only comparing the two top-tier solutions from ATi/nVidia. Notice how there's no other cards in the DX10 benchmarks from either side?
DUDE...it says at the top of the screen in red lettering when running the benchmark...."RUNNING OUT OF V-MEMORY" or video memory since its obvious you have no clue...bottom line...play crysis in middle of the road settings or pay an extra 100 bucks and play on high or ultra31337r4v3n
Which is why the Gamespot DX10 benchmarks were done with a 512MB Radeon 2900XT?
As for Crysis: if you aren't gonna max it out on a 8800GTS, you probably won't max it out on a 8800GTX either.
Just be quiet already.
there is a reason only top tier solutions were provided in the benchmarks not just from gamespot but from other websites too...theres no point in displaying NON playable framerates31337r4v3n
Fail, the Gamespot benchmarks VERY clearly compare low-end cards, some even pulling off a mere 16 frames/sec. Even if unplayable, results ARE STILL displayed.
Edit: Merged two posts..
im going against gs rules to say your a tool...only an IDIOT would argue that a gts is as fast as a gtx...you truly are a work of art...you need to stop playing computer games and only own consoles. 100 dollars gets you and i will quote this "OVER 50 percent performace increase ESPECIALLY at higher resolutions very much so on newer games" there truly are idiots in this world....oh yeah and about that 30 percent thing..sorry my bad its 33.3 percent...get a life scum31337r4v3n
 I NEVER said the GTS was as fast as the GTX. I just said the GTS is the better buy in my view.
You WILL NOT see a 50% performance increase in ANY application with the 8800GTX. The most any benchmark has conveyed so far is a 20% performance difference, and it's more often than not even less of a performance gap.
I completely agree with eliteraven on this one, it takes (2) gts's to match the performance of a SINGLE GTX, now im not dogging on the gts's by any means, as a matter of fact, i got two in SLi, i just think velocitas is completely out of line on this one, and is just mad because he cant play WiC on his Wal-Mart e-Machine. grow up buddy, get a real computer, take the plunge, get vista and dx10, and see what games are supposed to look like.

LOL..anyone else see the absurd contradiction there? If you think a single GTX outperforms 2 GTSs, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU PAY MORE FOR THE SLI SOLUTION?
Sounds like you're lying, little boy. Run along now.

another article where even in dx9 settings you get 50 percent performance increases in higher resolutions...i guess its you who should learn how to read.
they havent moderated me yet...yes you already see 50 percent performace increases in dx10 apps...but there is no sense talking to a 12 year old...go ahead and play everything on medium...ill be gaming on high 31337r4v3n
More nonsense claims with nothing to back them up. I also find your assumptions amusing.

If the 8800gts can't max it, Crysis won't get far until next year or so, when all prices drop.
I have 8800gts, 2.6 x2 5200+ amd, 4gb of ram.

here is your sli comparison...PWNT....stop now before i really make you look bad go play your ps3 now
Velocitas8, you need to do some extensive research before you start popping off at the mouth again.
not the sharpest knife in the drawer are you pal.
edeekeos
You're still here?
BUT YOU DID SAY THAT A GTS WAS JUST AS FAST AS A GTX BY SAYING..AND I QUOTE YOU..." IF YOU CANT MAX IT OUT ON A GTS YOU CANT MAX IT OUT ON A GTX..." did you not say that? by saying that you said there was no performace gain from either and in fact they are the same card hence making yourself look bad because anyone knows you get what you pay for.....WOW you are one of a kind.....that was also pretty funny edeekeos:P
