Hello! I realize this is a hardware forum but I figured this would be the best place to ask this.

What's the best method of backing up data such as many gigs of music built up over years of usage?
What programs even and how?

I know discs would be good, but the ways i have seen are kind of inefficient for what its worth.

Thanks a ton for any help and your time!

I've always liked a decently sized external hardrive, and just copying and pasting folders over. Easy and relatively quick.

Definitely an external HDD. Discs are fiddly, and you might lose some of them... Internal HDDs work just as well, if you have one spare.

Check out www.mozy.com. They provide secure online backup of your system. It's something like $4 a month for unlimited backups. You can even set the time interval to every 6 hours! It runs in the background when your screensaver is on or all the time if you like. If you lose your data, you can even have them mail a CD of your data to you.

Well I personally use Acronis True Image to back my primary drive. The images are placed on an 1TB eSATA external drive. My main drive is 250GBs and is compressed to about 97GBs by Acronis. I also have a 320GB and a 500GB HDDs that I don't backup for obvious reasons.
