i am looking for a good MMO that friends and i can get together and play on a nightly basis, were looking to play for about and hour and a half to 2 hours everyday, i was leaning towards planetside since its the type of game you can drop in group up play and stop in a short amount of time. any ideas?????

I would recommend Guildwars (technically not an MMO, but I wont go into the details). Its great for pick up for a hour or so and the low grind makes it friendly for all types of players. It has a strong PvE and PVP friendly community.

You should check Dungeons and Dragons Online and see if you like it.

Well WoW is pretty "pick up and play", but especially at later levels, things can become more time consuming. Possibly WAR could be better because of the PvP/RvR focus of the game. But I haven't played it enough or leveled up much in the game, so I can't really tell you what it's like at the later stages of the game.

WoW is great on your own; awesome community, easy, a lot of depth

With friends, its a blast. My friend and I played for quite a while together and it was a lot of fun starting from scratch and leveling up together.

Well for me, the con is that it's not a seamless world. It's basically completely instanced aside from the towns. The towns serve as a hub for meeting up and forming a party, then you leave town and it's instanced, meaning you don't interact with others in the game world.

Depending on the type of player you are, this is either a bad or good thing. To me it's bad, because I like to interact in a living, breathing world with other players. That's why I play WoW.

Also, game is far shorter. If you don't really care for the PvP aspect of the game, you probably won't stick with it for nearly as long.

On the upside, there's no monthly fee for Guild Wars like in WoW.

since youre playing with friends, a PvP-centric game (Guild Wars, Warhammer) would not be good. MMOs should primarily be about getting with friends (real ones or online ones) and questing, slaying monsters, and saving the virtual world. PvP should be an "extra" in MMOs imo. WoW has extremely good PvE content, and decent (dare I say "excellent"?) PvP that will satisfying any cravings you might have.

Guild Wars is a good game, its just not (in my mind) what an online RPG should be about. An MMO should be about taking on an alternate character, immersing yourself in a game with friends, and killing stuff.

Honestly though get whatever feedback from others, but you should really try them both out for yourself. Both games are definately good. Although for me, I prefer to play Guild Wars which is great with 2 or 3 friends. Heck you could even start your own Guild. Oh and no onlines fees definately aint a bad thing. :)

Good Luck with your choice.

Haha wow. As soon as I saw the thread title I thought "Planetside"

Back in the day Planetside was awesome...truly fantastic. But it hasnt aged well when I last played it.
But...for a newcomer to the game it will probably be as awesome as I remember it being.

BTW - it has AWESOME music.

Well based on your leanings and my personal experience (extensively played WoW and Guildwars) i recommend going ahead and getting GW. There are a few expansions so in order to get up to date im not sure how it would work (only played the first 2). However, i think for your pick and and play style it is the best choice. There is little content that takes more than a couple of hours to do at a time. WoW can get addicting and you may find yourself spending more time on it than you wanted just because it requires you to in order to get the most out of the game.

As a second note, Guild Wars II is expected in the not too distant future. This game will tackle many of the qualms such as not being free-form and people not liking the click to move style. Check out this http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2 for info about the sequel.

Good luck and i hope you find what your looking for!
