Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Whilst your pretty much forced to solo due to a small server population, you truely feel like a small fish in a big pond. If you like exploring/adventuring you will love this game. The cool part about it is that the draw distance is almost 5km, so you can stand at the top of a hill and spot a ruined castle FAR off in the distance, quest your way over there. Thats how I play anyway.
Lord of the Rings Online is GREAT for soloing. Instead of grinding to death, you are doing missions and quests from the moment you start playing at Level One. I never feel like I'm grinding because I don't need to reach higher levels to have an interesting experience. I don't even worry about my level. You can play the entire game soloing, if you wanted to.
I played Final Fantasy XI also and I hated it. Hours and hours of tedious grinding desperately trying to level up so I could do something besides fight the same boring monsters over and over again. That game punished you for soloing. LOTRO does not.
what's that? you want solo play on MMORPG? Guild Wars is the perfect game - as i remember they said 70% of all quests/missions you can do by yourself without a partyPredatorRules
yup agree. there are henchmen NPCs who are helping you in group quests I guess (I havent played much but I guess that was it ^^ ) And you dont have to pay monthly fee as well :)
f you want to play an MMO solo then just get Oblivion and save yourself the monthly fees... but yeah, LOTRO is good for soloing.ben2000
Good point, Ben.
LotRO is a great game for soloing online because of the expansive lands to explore and the myriad of animals to hunt. A lot of side quests can be solo'd and, I found, most of the people friendly enough to help me if I got in a bind. It reminded mea lot of the early days of Star Wars Galaxies.
Most of the MMOs force you to group up at some point, but the extent of that is also determined by the class you choose and the quality of your battle tactics. I was able to solo explore and hunt much of WoW as a Warlock because the Warlock is less gear reliant than, say, a fighter, and you also have your summoned pet to help out... and that nifty eye spell you can use to scout things out to further discover danger before it's too late.
Guild Wars doesn't really allow you to solo solo as successfully as it allows you to just play with a team of NPCs. However, it is possible to train your character up before Post-Ascalon to a level that makes it easier to go questing solo when you finally leave Pre-Searing. If going with the NPCs is your idea of soloing, get the "Nightfall" expansion pack. Nightfall provides advanced NPC features, where you don't just have NPCs in your party, but you get to customize them and choose their gear as well as their tactics in battle.
I have not played LOTR online, but from what I have been reading here, it sounds like the most solo-able game.
I understand the desire to solo, even though you're playing a MMORPG. It's nice not to have others as a liability, and accomplishing great things in a world not necessarily designed for solo play is rewarding. Plus, you just might be in the mood to roleplay that loner type of character that watches everything from a distance and remains mysterious to the others.
