Where's the love for Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge?
I mean, I love all of the games people have listed here (except MI4 - urgh), but MI2 was just pure brilliance, and MI3 failed to live up to that.

Oh there is always a special place in my heart reserved for Monkey Island 2! Although i cant really agree with your opinions on MI3, i think they did a helluva good job with that one.

Not to me.
Monkey Island, all of them (yes, even 4).Mochyc
Agreed. Possibly Monkey Island 2 is a bit better than the other 3 though, but they are all the best games ever made.

Don't get me wrong - The Curse of Monkey Island was fantastic, but it felt a bit too different to the previous games, and the plot didn't really fit in (which forced them into some very awkward plot exposition towards the end of the game).
it's kinda funny. i keep seeing games that i've never heard of here. i didn't really play games til the late 90's so i never got to play stuff like grim fandango or monkey island.twentymooseman
Well then your in for the treat of your life...if you love adventure games that is. I recommend you start with The secret of monkey island aka Monkey island 1. Youll have a grog swelling good time

I loved MI2. This one doesn't even come from nostalgia, I played it for the first time about a year ago, pure brilliance. However, it did have one of the biggest WTF endings ever .
Surely the Monkey island's and the Grim Fandago's were built on the Sam and Max's, Maniac Mansion's and Day of the Tentacle experiences.
And all these were built on what came before.... And what came before are my favourites:
The Labyrinth, Ballblazer, Rescue on Fractulus, Koronis Rift and The Eidolon on my wonderful 38k ram Commodore 64!!!!
Wow! I also played Monkey Island on my Amiga 500. What an experience. I also later played Monkey 2 on the PC and I was so amazed. The graphics, the music... It was even better than the first one. I like the third too. Amazing animation, full talkie! I even liked Monkey Island 4 which most people hate. It looked good for a 3d game and the story was fun even if there's too much self refence and some absurd characters. Most games from Lucasarts of the 90's are good. Especially those that are NOT Star Wars. Really there are not many good SW games besides Jedi Knight 2, X-Wing ones and Lego and KOTOR ones which are not made by them. I hate so much Lucasarts nowadays. That was since they cancelled Sam and Max 2. It could chance if they release Monkey Island 5, but that is not going to happen.Oh the memories.
I really loved `em all, and still do. The old adventure games that is. I still remember the day i bought secret of monkey island for my Amiga :)
