The best Dx10 or higher is the best Dx9 card, Dx10 cards is compatible to older versions.

Just curious, why do you want a DX9 only card? You'll be getting a 7-series if you want a card that specifically doesn't support DX10. Have you considered 8-series cards?

I'm not sure of the best 7-series you can buy, but I imagine its the 7800GTX or 7950GT.

7950GX2 or 7900GTX.

But ATM,getting either is a very stupid idea,unless you can get them used under $100.

Ok so my next question would be. Any direct X 10 card, like the 8800gts, and higher, etc. can be used on windows xp?

Never quite understood this whole directx 10 thing..

Yes, thats correct. Any 8-series card can be used in XP, and they perform just as well. To use DX10 you'll need to be using Vista.
