Personally, I play a lot of older games, but im usually surrounded by people who think that anything more than 6 months old is unplayable.

so, what are your favorite old games? (I'd say a 5 year old minimum)

personally, my favorite old game is the same as my favorite game ever. Half-life.

I really liked the older Stronghold games. Then they screwed it up with Stronghold 2.

Deus Ex, Stronghold, Starcraft, Diablo 2, Diablo, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Thief, Tribes, Tribes 2, System Shock 2, Unreal Tournament (up to 2k4), Planescape Torment, Fall Out 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, The Sims, Jedi Knight Series...and a few more I can't remember. And can anyone believe Half-Life 2 has been out for almost five(!) years already? Insane! I can remember booting Half-Life 2 at 4AM in the morning before going to school on the day of its release.

i like Freelancer, Mafia, Homeworld 2, and on console any of the N64 games I own.

There used to be this game, kinda like Rollercoaster tycoon, but it was a bit more... I'm not sure, for kids, I suppose. I think it was a theme park building game. My friened randomly gave it to me one day after saying his little sister was playing it and it was a really good game. I though "why not?" and gave it a try and got addicted.

Edit: It was Sim Themepark.

since it's 5 years old and so apparently counts, Half-Life 2... but it doesn't really feel like an old game to me at all

my favourite old game that actually feels like an old game is Deus Ex.

Yeah I wouldn't really call Half-Life 2 an old game, simply because of the nature of the episodes which mean it's an on-going game.

I guess CS:S. But I haven't been playing PC games my whole life. Maybe Civ III after that.

Despite the episodes, the retail game still game out 4 and a half years ago. That is pretty old. It doesn't feel old though due to how ahead of its time the game was upon release.

My ADD tween life was full of Guild Wars and C-S. Fallout 1 and 2, Diablo II, StarCraft, WarCraft III, and even the Final Fantasies are great oldies.

I would say putting HL2 in the categoryof OLD game is a little hard. That game in my eyes was the game that changed all games. It still stands as one of the better graphical games to date even with a low system spec. Anyway that was a rant about my love of HL2 now as for what I would consider old would be Starcraft hands down allong with Diablo and the original HL those three were the best games at the perspective genre in my eyes

I say the following:

-Age of Empires 1 and 2

- Diablo 1 and 2(particularly 2)

-Total Annihilation

-Unreal Tournament

You know I think you should go older then just 5 years. I think its more reasonable to put the cap at say..... anything released before 2002 or something.

The original Painkiller (6 years old). nVidia-specific graphics, TWIMTBP rating and nVidia Logo rights, plus the same physics enginie that was chosen for ragdoll physics for Oblivion 2 years later.

How about this for a real oldie: 1985, MicroProse. "Kennedy Approach". An air traffic control simulation, with 100% mimicry of a human voice & radio static (milestone for 1985). Originally on 8-bit machines & Amiga. Never ported to Windows until an individual decided to take the original 8-bit Assembly, and transcribe it by hand to 32-bit XP.

First RTS.

Graphics, gameplay and sound are completely true to the original.

hmm... maybe i should have said something more than 5 years. i dont know. when i think of 5 years old, i think of KotOR or CoD (even they are a little older), not CSS or HL2. oh well. good to see so many people like Deus Ex as well.

My favorite old game is Harpoon. I played that game to death. That was many, many years ago but still my favorite. Another old game I really enjoyed was called The Perfect Admiral.

Whenever I think of awesome old games the King's Quest series comes to mind. These were late 80's early 90s but were some of the most entertaining adventure/RPing games of all time in my opinion. The humor as well was top notch. Other great ones along these lines were Monkey Island and Space Quest.
