I'm sorry but how can you possibly make a "best online shooter" poll without having UT in it?
auroraxt
And is the community any good? and the title is "best online shooter?" as in I have not clue what is best now ;D.
Out of those, BF2. But its far from what I'd say is the "Best". Quake III, Team Fortress, Unreal Tournament 2004, and even Battlefield 1942, are better than these games, if you ask me.ProudLarry
Are all those still played by a lot of people?

Yes, plenty.
http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/
CS 1.6 and CS:S would be included with HL and HL2, but still UT2004 is 6th on the list, Q3 is 12th, BF1942 is 16th. So there are PLENTY of pepole playing these games, even if they're not the newest. I don't know about R6: Vegas though. I've not heard much about the game.

You can take a look at http://www.xfire.com/ (today's top games) to get an "idea" of game popularity, I was beat to the gamespy link ;)
Yeah, BF2 is a great game, I'd have to agree that's the best option out of your list. I don't think Vegas has a large online PC game community even though it's a very fun LAN/Coop game IMO :)

Those stats dont include nonregistered members right? Because I assume there are more people playing each of those in actuality.

Wow, thats a sweet site, I didnt know they kept a minutes ranking of each game.
I'm a casual online FPS player, and out of all of the listed games I enjoyed Battlefield 2142 the most. I had alot of fun with the titan mode and buggies. :Dgalaxer99
I here people mention titan mode a lot, what exactly is it?
Well your right on PC community for Vegas. I think its horrible. Not many people play it and its really hard see if the game is full or not cause it doesnt refresh very well. You may like Vegas but imo i dont recommend it to play on the PC.blindsamurai
So what would you recommend?
how do you get your levels up on the site i dont know howdylbasaur
Your experience/level is increased by a number of things.
Check out this thread.

I would say Battlefield 2. Has the most active community and exceptionally fun gameplay. HL2 and CS Source or 1.6 are good. If you dont mind an offline game, Bioshock has an amazing story and the gameplay is hella fun. DL the demo if you want.
As weird as it is, CS Source is a giant leap down towards hell from CS 1.6. Should have been different. But the whole thing just doesnt stack up. Gameplay in CS 1.6 is 10 times better. So far, i have not encountered any shooter that betters it. Battlefield and all the junk considered.Alnar

I am already playin bioshock and it is phenomenal.
I play both BF2 and BF2142, I voted 2142 because I like the unlock system better. I don't think I could play an online shooter with no ranking now.Delius
I hate games with ranking systems, because I cant stand having to play a game. If you are good at shooters you should be able to just go pwn and not worry about some life consuming rank system.
Not sure about your definition of community size but I woudl vote for UT2004 since you can still find some good games.rudyroundhead
Community size meaning tons of active games and players and fan sites, etc. Like WoW, but shooters.
Even though it's only a demo I had a great time with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. I enjoy the team based goals, it kinda gives you a meaning to be a certain class and enjoy it.
From the list, I still occasionally jump into Counter Strike Source.

Yeah it looked tempting to me.
UT2004.
But out of those, I'll go with Battlefield 2.
Velocitas8
Yea what he said and take out CS 1.6 and insert UT2004 instead.
I'd probably be playing Battlefield 2 right now if my PC didn't suck so much. (It can handle BF1942 alright, but I'm spoiled by BF2's improved infantry combat.) I'd also play copious amounts of UT 2004, but that wasn't on the poll.NamelessPlayer
I am seriously considering gettin UT 2004 considering all the praise it has gotten, and I would like to see a comment from the one sould who voted for rsv if they see the plee. I really want to know what the MP is like on the pc.
