FighterPigDelux's thread got me thinking...what OS was the absolute best for gaming?

(I combined 95/98 because I don't really consider the change between them to be that significant. Linux and others are omitted just because. :P)

Mine would have to be MS DOS, but I bet that's quite obvious after looking at my screen name.

For me im going to say Windows 95/98
because most of my favourite games game out for those Operating Systems.
Such as, Warcraft 1 and 2, Diablo and Civilization 2
=)

XP has been the most dependable for me so far... Vista is alright for some stuff, but I keep all versions of XP on my PC because Vista fails on more games than xp, and this will never change at this point

when windows 98 was released it was hands down the best OS ever. I enjoyed gaming alot more on it than any OS afterwards. (probably due to the games that were out at the time). Stronghold crusader for life!

XP has never done me wrong. I don't see myself switching to Vista anytime soon.

Win98... it still carried MS/DOS support. DOS by itself was pretty horrific, though... remember boot disks and having to manually configure the sound drivers? setup.exe D:

Ah yes, I do still love SkiFree. But XP for me. Also, who would vote for Vista?

http://ski.ihoc.net/ SkiFree was ported to XP by the guy that originally made it. :)

I have one PC which uses Windows XP/Vista (XP PWNZ ViSTA!) and two PCs that use Win 98 SE & DOS. I like Windows 98 SE the most, because I've used it the most and it supports most of my favorite games better than XP.

Also, SkiFree kicks ass. Anybody remember Rodent's Revenge? I used to play that a lot too... Pipe Dream.. ah the memories of theMicrosoft Windows Entertainment Pack. Good times.

Vista has never let me down yet, so I'll go with it since I consider it better than XP.

I guess I'll say XP since its peak is much better than the peak of any other OS. My Windows 98 SE crashed too often for my taste. Windows ME wasn't bad though.
