I've never really followed through on actually really trying to play a Paradox game...some reviews Say Crusader Kings 2 is fine but not fun because of constant micromanagement........I notice most no longer come with a paper manual and 200 page pdf manuals would drive me nuts....I will really try any recommends that will run ok on win 7, quad core.

I really like the Mount and Blade games. M&B: Warband is probably my favorite, but I think War of the Roses might be better.

I like the Hearts of Iron series but Paradox does need to learn how to streamline their game interfaces. Way complicated and clunky.

They are fine, in fact most are quite simplistic really.

It depends on the setting that you are interested in.

Crusader kings 2 is a great game and is somewhat complicated but you are free to play it as you please. Be a king, duke, count, etc. Go to war or don't, use subterfuge, etc.

Hearts of iron 3 is completely focused on war. It is a much more complicated game because of the shear volume of units, technology, etc.

I would personally recommend europa universalis 3. It has a decent tutorial with which you will get a hang of the game. The fighting is streamlined and trade is mostly automatic. Also, there are a ton of great mods that you can install if you want a greater challenge.

The trick to Paradox games is to just keep playing no matter how scary it seems. If you screw up and your mercenary army turns on you because you mismanaged your budget, don't worry about it. Just keep playing!

Crusader Kings 2 is pretty easy to get into to.
