risen got 84/100 on one of the critic, but from my point of view, the gameplay/graphic looks outdated, I don't know about storyline/env setting, but within a week, people will post their reviews soon, it is released in 6 days.
Besides Dragone Age, there is alpha protocol, but I dont know how it will live up to be. From all the video/preview I watched, it doesnt really have much replayability values. there seemed to be some intense combat/dialogue, but no freeroaming or exploration.
Fallout 3 with all 5 dlc is packed into GOTY andwill be released soon, but then again, fallout 3 is 2008 RPG, not 2009.
and that is about it, I dont consider MMO as RPG(any game that doesnt have choice-consequence, but hack & slash...is not what I consider RPG game).
Drakensang?
pvtdonut54
yup, Drakensang gets my vote.
GS is freaking out of its mind to knock points off for having an in-depth character creation screen
if kings bounty armored princess is to be released this year i'm inclined to say thatadamosmaki
it's already out, just no English version. sadly it probably never will be an English release; yeah, it's certainly the most likely candidate but I don't get to play it.
as of now so far, Drakensang.

No english version? Thats sad. Don't worry, there will be an English version. Last time with KB : TL also the Russian version was released 5-6 months before the English version. They have now created a English website and there are screenshots of English version out there like :http://worthplaying.com/article/2009/8/26/news/64723/

thanks for the heads up! I noticed KB:TL via your thread. now the difference is that with TL I didn't anticipate the game, so didn't mind the 5-6 months between original and English release...now the WAIT for AP is terrible^^"

Oh thanks for the info. Good news indeed. One of the best Rpg's ( and imo the best turn based rpg since might and magic VI ) it would be a shame not to get an english version ( btw got to love the art style simply amazing )[QUOTE="naval"]

he he ... I had to endure a big wait after the Russian release of KB, glad to see more people in the same boat as me this time:twisted:he he ... I had to endure a big wait after the Russian release of KB, glad to see more people in the same boat as me this time:twisted:

indeed! and we have a nice little boat this time around I think.
Well if you guys really want KB: AP, you can import it from Russia, theres an English Mod available however a very bare translation, the guy who made it said he did it in 6 hours (so much text to translate its a wonder how he did it in that time).
I'll just wait for the official release hopefully it really does come.
As for best PC RPG it might be one of these:
Dragon Age
Divinity 2
Drakensang
Risen

Keep forgetting about divinity 2..Think that may be 2010..Not much has been said about it yet..

I agree with this. Beautiful game, tons of stuff to do, only real problem for me is not being able to change the way the characters look other than clothing. The girl battlemages and soldiers just look terrible. I'm really looking forward to Dragon Age though.Dragon Age: Origins, Divinity 2: Ego Draconis and Risen, which I just pre-ordered. This will be a legendary year for PCRPGs if all comes right. All these 3 look absolutely, solidly amazing!
Risen now on October 2, Dragon Age in November and the US version of Divinity 2 in December. Alas, I'll have a very busy last quarter saving those worlds... but I will make the effort. ;)
EDIT: to say that Risen won't almost definitely be playable this year is an unfair statement. How can someone "pre-conclude" that, if the game hasn't even been launched yet? Based on Gothic 3? If so, that is completely biased. Pun aside, Jowood is out of the game now. Of this game, at least. And Gothic 1 and 2 and Night of The Raven were precious gems of a very, very rare species. And completely playable from the very beginning.
Do a thousand marvellous things, they don't care. Screw up once, they will always remember that...
So much mention for Drakensang that it made me go buy it from D2D a while ago. Haven't played it yet, but my vote goes to Drakensang for some reason. *brainwashed*CrazyKilljoy117
don't do that... we have more than enough people making claims about games not yet released. Drakensang is released and make your call after actually playing it.
It's really between Drakensang, Dragon Age Origins, Alpha Protocol and Last Remnant. Maybe Borderlands, but so many people are gonna jump at that and claim it isn't an RPG the moment it comes out. Risen almost definitely won't be playable this year. So, we can't tell yet, but I would say that Dragon Age will be the best this year. But maybe that's just cause I miss Baldur's Gate.kieranb2000Alpha Protocol got delayed until next summer. I am bummed as heck, it was on my list.

Dragon Age is DnD, correct?pvtdonut54
no, dnd belongs to Atari. Bioware are on their own to create a fantasy universe this time. However, I think they'll be doing a great job, satisfaying their old faithfuls and new recruits through Mass Effect (maybe precisely because there's no dnd this time around).

Not the Universe, the rule set, unless that is what you meant. :P[QUOTE="teardropmina"][QUOTE="pvtdonut54"]Dragon Age is DnD, correct?pvtdonut54

I would really love to say "Diablo III" but I fear I'll be 30 before this game comes out... /sigh.
I'm gonna have to say let's wait until Borderlands hits before making a call. I guess that has the self given title of RPS (Roleplaying Shooter), but Fallout 3 would be in the same boat.
On that note, Fallout 3 was a good game, but nowhere near perfect nor near the top of my RPG list, so I can't agree that it takes the cake for best RPG of 2009. It was good for one playthrough, had an abysmally small number of ending choices, and was way too short.
I'm sure the fact that it came out in 2008 also helps it not take the title of Best RPG of 2009?On that note, Fallout 3 was a good game, but nowhere near perfect nor near the top of my RPG list, so I can't agree that it takes the cake for best RPG of 2009. I'm fine with that :) But several people have been throwing it into this topic, so I had to respond.
