don't go with a dell or alienware for sure. I'm new to this but I would suggest a p35-ds3r mobo, a 2900xt(or pro if xt is too much) video card, crucial ballistix ram, q6600 quad core and basically let you pick whatever else. Bang for the buck I think that's the best parts you can get.

Build, don't buy... you could build a nice high-end rig for that much money, but if you bought one it would be mediocre at best.

Actually there are 2*1gb of Ballistix there-it says "$105.98 ($52.99 each)". I would have put in the 2GB kit, but they were out of stock.

I agree that Vista Ultimate should not be in there-I clicked that by mistake!

Other than that it is a nice build.

what's so wrong about vista ultimate, does anything else have a 64 bit system with directx 10, if not vista premium is the one to go with.

Ive got no idea about Ultimate's features. What I do know is that it takes up a lot of system resources. Buy Vista Home Premium. While it isnt the most streamlined OS, it works perfectly well most of the time and will give you DX10. It isnt worth the extra money for Ultimate just to look pretty and slow your system down.

I know nothing about computers but I was wondering about getting an Alienware for gaming online. My mate says they are overpriced which I sort of believe but is there any other reason they should be avoided?
