Anyone? No monitor, keyboard, etc. Nothing but the computer itself.

Screw spending $1000. Just spend $600 and call it a day (Plus you'll get $95 back in rebates). If the video isn't beefy enough then get an HD4850.

Power supply and an OS are kind of necessary. Wouldn't spend that much on a 2x1GB kit of RAM either, you could find 2x2GB of DDR2 800 for that price.

Damnit I swear the PSU is there. Its the Earthwatts 430. Apparently no one but me can see it.(ev)en though I'm not logged in)

OS to me is no issue, so I never include it, especially since people have their preferance with Vista/XP/Linux.

The ram is only $25 after rebate. (the G.Skil is no longer $40 with instant)

Switch out the 8800gs for a 4870.

Maybe 250 - 500gb hard drive.

But i can see the power supply :).

Apart from that, looks like a good suggestion.

so you can see the PSU as well? I don't get it. WTF is going on with newegg?

As to the other suggestions, I can see having a 500gb drive, I'd personally stick with 250gb as I keep all my imporant files and media on separate drive, but the 4870 is a significant leap in price from the 8800GS. Maybe the HD4850 instead?

My 520w power supply can nearly put out as much amperage as that. Hell, there are 550w units that can match that number.

Ahh, well, he asked best performance for the price. and it would still be under.

But i see what you mean, big money sink, thinking "don't spend if you don't have to" kinda thing :P.

"don't spend if you don't have to" kinda thing :P.rik666

Thats the idea.

Save that cash for your next (presumably budget) build and continue the cycle.

Graphics cards only draw power off the +12v rail. The extra wattage isn't going to help any if the +12v rail is the same as on a another unit.
